Notes: The magneto-optical polar Kerr rotation spectra and reflectivity spectra in the wavelength region 400–700 nm are studied for Fe/PbTe and Fe/Pb bilayer films. Large Kerr rotation enhancement with high reflectivity was observed. The experimental data of reflectivity are nearly consistent with theoretical calculation using Fresnel's equations. However, the observed Kerr rotation spectra behavior is quite different from that expected by macroscopic optical theory.

Notes: Substitution of Ni for Mn in La0.67Sr0.33MnO3 (LSMO) lowers the Curie temperature TC from 365 K for LSMO to 194 K for La0.67Sr0.33(Mn0.8Ni0.2)O3, which exhibits a cluster glass-like state. The oxide is insulating under both zero field and 60 kOe, but application of the magnetic field induces colossal magnetoresistance (CMR) especially at low temperature. Far below TC, the compound's field dependence of resistivity has a very similar shape with that of metallic perovskite manganite at relatively high temperature when the spin fluctuation grows stronger. The results indicate that the ferromagnetic superexchange between Ni and Mn, is helpful for the overall ferromagnetic exchange components just overcoming the generic antiferromagnetic exchange components, which leads to the presence of the cluster glass-like state. The reduction of the magnetic disorder and the suppression of the spin fluctuation in Mn–O layer by the external magnetic field are suggested to explain the CMR effect in this insulating compound © 1999 American Institute of Physics.

Notes: The fully self-consistent discrete variational method within the local-spin-density framework has been employed to obtain the electronic structure and magnetic moments of the Mn-containing cubic Laves phase pseudobinary compound of YFe2. The calculated results show that the substitution of Mn atoms on Fe sites weakens the ferromagnetism of this compound. The magnetic moments on distinct atomic sites were derived from the calculation. We found that when the Fe atom has one Mn atom in its nearest neighbor sites, its magnetic moment decreases rapidly, while the Mn moment is 0.71μB, parallel to the Fe moment. Based upon our results, the various experimental data have been satisfactorily explained.

Notes: The dynamic behavior of the magnetization for (111)-oriented films with cubic crystalline structures has been studied theoretically, and the permeability for such textured films has been confirmed to be isotropic. Meanwhile, Co-rich CoFeAlCu films with high saturation magnetization (4πMs=15.8 kG) and low magnetostriction (λs=1.3×10−6), prepared by the dc sputtering method, are found to exhibit perfect fcc (111) orientation with grain size of about 400 A(ring). A fairly good isotropic magnetic softness has been attained for CoFeAlCu films with Zr underlayers even in the as-sputtered state with Hc of about 1.5 Oe in every measuring direction. After annealing in a rotating magnetic field at 380 °C for 2 h, the magnetic softness is further improved with Hc as low as 0.85 Oe, and the permeability is isotropic in the film plane and as high as 500–600. The perfect (111) orientation of the CoFeAlCu films leads to the isotropic softness, which is consistent with the theoretical prediction. © 1996 American Institute of Physics.

Notes: Magnetization, resistance, and current–voltage (I–V) measurements have been performed in La0.5Sr0.5MnO3 compact prepared by pressing sol-gel nanoparticles (46 nm) at 723 K with a high pressure (4 GPa). The pressed compound orders ferromagnetically at 340 K (TC) and has a substantial drop in the thermomagnetic curve below 158 K (TDP). After undergoing a metal–to–semiconductor transition at 140 K (TMS), the compound reenters into a strong semiconducting state below 60 K, demonstrating a charge localized behavior induced by the small grain rather than the magnetic disorder which is related with the frozen spin clusters below TDP. Instead of showing a feature near TMS, the magnetoresistance (MR) ratio increases almost linearly with decreasing temperature. The large low field MR corresponding to the sharp rise of magnetization is obtained at 5 K and, evidenced as the spin polarized intergrain tunneling (SPIT) effect by the nolinear I–V curve. Although La0.5Sr0.5MnO3 has a relatively high TC, the SPIT MR decays rapidly from 17.6% (5 K, 0.3 T) to 7.6% (150 K, 0.3 T), indicating that if trying to put the low field sensitivity of SPIT MR into application at room temperature, the selected compound having a higher TC seems to be a prerequisite. © 2000 American Institute of Physics.

Notes: The magnetic and magnetotransport properties of the perovskite La0.67Ca0.33Mn0.9Fe0.1O3 have been investigated, and the spin-glass behavior with a spin freezing temperature of 42 K has been well confirmed for this compound. A metal-to-insulator transition and colossal magnetoresistance have been observed near its spin freezing temperature; besides, the insulator behavior has been found to reappear at lower temperature. The formation of ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic clusters and the competition between them with the introduction of Fe3+ ions, which do not participate in the double-exchange process, have been suggested to explain the experimental results. © 1997 American Institute of Physics.

Notes: Purpose - Collaborative processes are relatively complex and are therefore difficult to handle. Representing the joint processes and capturing the interactions among stakeholders in a structured way are critical to improve the collaboration productivity. This paper aims to present a generic collaborative process model that improves on current approaches by explicitly representing the perspectives of stakeholders and their evolution traversing a work process. Design/methodology/approach - This approach provides a mechanism to identify the interdependencies among tasks and stakeholders, and realizes collaboration through process management. A web-based information system using the model to support collaborative process management is also described. Findings - The research work provides collaboration management systems with the ability to analyze and control the processes through sharing perspectives. Originality/value - The models and methods described in this paper are an important part of a pervasive, resilient and predictable means for business process management over the internet.

Notes: An experimental investigation was undertaken into the seismic performance of a precast prestressed concrete frame system. A total of three beam-to-column connection models were designed, built, and tested to failure to evaluate their strength and ductility properties under cyclic loading. The comparative study showed that the hysteretic loops were full and the joints had better energy dissipation capacity. It was concluded that satisfactory seismic performance could be expected from this frame system if the slip of the U-shaped reinforcing steel bar was controlled well on the zone of joint. Then the finite element method (FEM) was used to analyze the specimen and the calculation results were in good agreement with those of the test

Notes: Based on the principle of restrained concrete, this paper presents a new-type concrete filled steel tubular column-slab joint. This new-type joint is characterized by keeping the concrete floor slab continuous while breaking the steel tube of the column for the joint, thus joining the slab and the concrete filled steel tubular(CFST) columns at the top and the bottom of the slab. The joint has the advantage of transferring loads dependably, constructing conveniently and saving on the cost. Three groups of experiments (21 specimens contained) were performed to test the safety of the joint and investigate its axial bearing capacity. The results show that the joint is dependable and feasible in engineering applications. In addition, this paper studies the working mechanism and mechanical properties of the joint under axial compression, discusses the factors to influence its axial bearing capacity, and finally brings out the formula of the joint’s bearing capacity under axial compression that adapts to engineering applications, which conservatively evaluate the result of the experiments
