    Abstract: This book highlights the ontogenetic development of larval T. ovatus, provides a comprehensive overview of larval rearing of this species. It focuses on the physiological and molecular changes during the early ontogeny of T. ovatus and hatchery and nursery practices. The first seven chapters update the recent development in the hatchery technology in T. ovatus, including feed and feeding, environmental manipulation, hatchery management, and fingerlings in transportation. Chapter eight and onwards decode the possible molecular mechanisms underlying fish development and response to environmental changes and discuss the transcription and expressions of growth and development-related genes in T. ovatus. The last chapters discuss the functional feed additives to the diet and antibiotic usage of T. ovatus juveniles. This book is a valuable resource for researchers, practitioners and students in the aquaculture industry and related fields.

    Notes: Polymer light emitting diodes in which the cathode comprises an ultrathin layer of alkaline earth metal show much better operating lifetime, especially at high temperatures, in comparison with devices fabricated with cathodes from the same metals with thickness greater than 100 Å. The operating lifetime is dependent on the specific low work function metal used. Among the alkali and alkaline earth metals, devices with ∼30 Å Ba as cathode show the best half life during continuous operation. Using an ultrathin Ba cathode with an Al or Ag capping layer and poly[2-(3,7-dimethyloctyloxy)-5-methoxy-1,4-phenylenevinylene] as luminescent polymer, the half life reaches 400 h at 85 °C and exceeds 10 000 h at room temperature when operated at a current density of 8.3 mA/cm2 with a luminance of 100–140 cd/cm2. © 2000 American Institute of Physics.

    Notes: The device performance of light-emitting electrochemical cells is improved by adding a bifunctional liquid additive into the light-emitting layer. Because of the surfactant-like character of the additive, the light-emitting layer exhibits a high surface area bicontinuous three-dimensional network morphology. The semiconducting polymer forms a continuous network phase enabling electronic transport of injected electron and holes: the electrolyte forms a continuous network phase enabling fast ion transport; the nm length scale of the phase separated network enables rapid, effective transport of the ions into the conducting polymer during electrochemical doping. © 1996 American Institute of Physics.

    Notes: Measurements of the frequency dependence of the complex admittance are used to separate the ionic and electronic contributions in polymer light-emitting electrochemical cells (LECs). At zero bias, a large polarizability, attributed to salt molecules in the electrolyte, is observed at low frequencies. Ions are generated when the LEC is biased at voltages above the threshold for electrochemical redox doping. Because of the slow ionic response, a novel pulsed drive scheme is proposed: the mean value stabilizes the induced p-i-n junction, while the peak value controls the carrier injection and the brightness of the electroluminescent emission. LECs operated in this way exhibit fast emissive response and improved operating life. © 1998 American Institute of Physics.

    Notes: We reported efficient polymer light emitting diodes with alkali and alkaline earth metal fluoride Al cathodes. The quantum efficiencies of these devices are more than two orders of magnitude higher than those in devices without fluoride layer, comparable to the best data reported with similar electroluminescent polymers. The mechanism of the metal fluoride/Al bilayer cathodes was also discussed based on photovoltaic, ac impedance, and photoluminescence efficiency measurement. © 2001 American Institute of Physics.

    Notes: Abstract In this paper, we report on the use of combinatorial optimization techniques to design testing fixtures for Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs). For testing the functionality of a PCB, nail-like testing devices (probes) on the surface of a testing fixture are brought in contact with prespectified test points (pads) on the surface of the PCB. The two design decisions for the testing fixture are: (a) to select from an available set of pads the ones to test (this determines the location of the probes on the fixture) subject to the restriction that in prespecified subsets of the set of pads (these subsets are referred to as “nets”) and a priori determined number of pads have to be tested (this is referred to as the “net restriction”), and (b) to choose the probe size to be used for testing each pad (only two available sizes: a large (100 mil) and a small (50 mil)) subject to the considerations that larger size probes are more reliable for testing purposes and probes that are assigned to pads in close proximity should not come in physical contact with each other (it creates short circuits and erroneous test result). Thus, the problem the testing engineer faces is to assign the maximum number of 100 mil probes to an appropriately selected set of pads in a way that avoids the creation of short circuits and accounts for the “net restriction”. We develop an efficient algorithm to solve the problem using results from the vertex packing literature, which exploit the special structure of an appropriate geometric graph we can define in this application. The algorithm can handle the large size real problem within 2–3 minutes of real time on a microcomputer.

    Notes: Abstract In this paper, we introduce a generalized Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) model which unifies and extends most of the well-known DEA models developed over the past fifteen years and points the way to new models. By setting three binary parameters of this model to different values, we obtain subclasses of the DEA models with generalK cone andW cone descriptions to represent the evaluator's preferences for the Decision Making Units (DMU) and the input/output categories. We also show relationships among the various different subclasses of the generalized DEA model and give special attention to efficiency definitions and solutions. Furthermore, we state and rigorously prove the equivalence between DEA efficiency and the nondominated solutions of a corresponding multi-objective program. This latter result is especially important for understanding and interpreting the concept of efficiency. Detailed examples are also presented to demonstrate the functions ofK cone andW cone, as well as their characteristics.
