Description: The reliability of Arctic climate predictions is currently hampered by insufficient knowledge of natural climate variability in the past. A sediment core from Lake El'gygytgyn in northeastern (NE) Russia provides a continuous, high-resolution record from the Arctic, spanning the past 2.8 million years. This core reveals numerous "super interglacials" during the Quaternary; for marine benthic isotope stages (MIS) 11c and 31, maximum summer temperatures and annual precipitation values are ~4 degrees to 5 degrees C and ~300 millimeters higher than those of MIS 1 and 5e. Climate simulations show that these extreme warm conditions are difficult to explain with greenhouse gas and astronomical forcing alone, implying the importance of amplifying feedbacks and far field influences. The timing of Arctic warming relative to West Antarctic Ice Sheet retreats implies strong interhemispheric climate connectivity.〈br /〉〈span class="detail_caption"〉Notes: 〈/span〉Melles, Martin -- Brigham-Grette, Julie -- Minyuk, Pavel S -- Nowaczyk, Norbert R -- Wennrich, Volker -- DeConto, Robert M -- Anderson, Patricia M -- Andreev, Andrei A -- Coletti, Anthony -- Cook, Timothy L -- Haltia-Hovi, Eeva -- Kukkonen, Maaret -- Lozhkin, Anatoli V -- Rosen, Peter -- Tarasov, Pavel -- Vogel, Hendrik -- Wagner, Bernd -- New York, N.Y. -- Science. 2012 Jul 20;337(6092):315-20. doi: 10.1126/science.1222135. Notes: Conclusions New forms of materials and articles from high-strength technical fibres are described, which may be used in rubber technology articles and in reinforced plastics. Difficulties in textile processing of these fibres are caused by theirhigh stiffness and tendency to fibrillation. It is possible to eliminate the difficulties which arise by appropriate choice of the material of the fibre-guiding items, use of lubricating preparations, reduction of yarn tension in textile processing, and selecting the optimum scheme for setting up the weaving loom. The high-strength composite prepared from satin-weave fabric of p-polyamide fibres is characterized by very high indices under extension or bending as compared with fiberglass composites.

Notes: Conclusions -- Hot-pressed incombustible polymeric materials have been developed which have a low density; these are based on an epoxy or polyimide binder, reinforced with aramide fabrics; these can be used at temperatures up to 473 K. Production of these has been organized in the experimental works of the LenNII “Khimvolokno.” -- A reinforcing material has been developed in the form of the unidirectional OTA-S fabric which consists of SVM tow along the warp and of complex SVM yarn along the fill. The use of tow rather than yarn makes it possible to raise the physicomechanical properties of the organotextolites and to raise the productivity of labor in making them up, and also to reduce costs. -- The organotextolites developed can be used in making up constructional elements in aviation, machine works, shipbuilding, and other branches of technology.

Description / Table of Contents: Abstract
Notes: Abstract The effect of dispersity of supported palladium catalysts on the catalytic activity for hydrogenation and oxidative coupling of styrene has been studied. Changes in the catalytic activity for oxidative coupling are interpreted in terms of the dependence of oxygen adsorption on metal dispersity.

Description / Table of Contents: Abstract
Notes: Abstract Increase in dispersity of supported plladium was found in the presence of MoO3 due to a more even distribution of the precursor (PdCl2). It was observed that the metal-support interaction leads to a considerable increase of styrene adsorption and decrease of hydrogen adsorption under the influence of electron-acceptor molybdena ions.

Notes: Conclusions -- Processing carbon yarns of types “Ural-N” and UKN requires modernization of the weaving equipment. -- It is necessary to reduce the speed regime for all technological transitions. -- All the yarn-guiding elements should be made of pyroceram. -- Introduction of the fill-yarn into the orifice is desirably carried out with a punch. -- This structure of the woven filler should aid in maximum realization of the strength of carbon tows.

Notes: Conclusions For articles from CFM which undergo complex loads, nonwoven fibrous materials based on fibrillated, highly-oriented PHA fibres may be used as reinforcing fillers. Fibrillation of the PHA fibre can be carried out during the process of textile treatment. The strength of CFM based on nonwoven fibrous materials from fibrillated PHA fibre differ only slightly in extension in the lengthwise and crosswise directions.
