    Description: Taking advantage of the high temporal and spatial resolution observations of the Solar Dynamics Observatory , we present an extreme ultraviolet (EUV) wave associated with a micro-sigmoid eruption, which took place on 2012 October 4. The micro-sigmoid underwent a typical sigmoid-to-arcade evolution via tether-cutting reconnection, accompanied by a micro-flare, a filament eruption. The twin coronal dimmings at the footpoints of the sigmoid indicate the existence of the associated micro-coronal mass ejection that likely triggered a small-scale EUV wave. The wave onset was nearly simultaneous with the start of the eruption and the associated flare. The wave had a nearly circular front, and propagated at initial velocities of 300–360 km s –1 . Because the sigmoid was located in the non-quiet region, the generated wave interacted with the ambient loops, and triggered transverse loop oscillations, resulting in many loop-shaped dimmings. Moreover, the interaction between the wave and one large loop led not only to the oscillation but also to the downward plasma flow along the loop, inducing loop footpoints to brighten. Another small loop was nearly intact after the wave passed. In some directions, the wave was refracted by the loops, and the refracted speeds increased, decreased, or vanished in different directions. All results provide evidence that the EUV wave was a fast-mode magnetohydrodynamic wave.

    Description: The magnetic and transport properties of La 0.7 Sr 0.3 Mn 1−x CoxO 3 (0 ≤ x ≤ 1) samples were systematically studied. A magnetic phase diagram was constructed according to the observed results. At the two ends (x ≤ 0.3 and x 〉 0.9), the samples exhibit the conventional ferromagnetism with the metallic conducting behavior, which can be interpreted in terms of the double exchange coupling between Mn (Co) ions.     Description: The magnetic and microwave absorption properties of the interstitial atom modified intermetallic compound Ce 2 Fe 17 N X have been investigated. The Ce 2 Fe 17 N X compound shows a planar anisotropy with saturation magnetization of 1088 kA/m at room temperature. The Ce 2 Fe 17 N X paraffin composite with a mass ratio of 1:1 exhibits a permeability of μ ′  = 2.7 at low frequency, together with a reflection loss of −26 dB at 6.9 GHz with a thickness of 1.5 mm and −60 dB at 2.2 GHz with a thickness of 4.0 mm. It was found that this composite increases the Snoek limit and exhibits both high working frequency and permeability due to its high saturation magnetization and high ratio of the c-axis anisotropy field to the basal plane anisotropy field. Hence, it is possible that this composite can be used as a high-performance thin layer microwave absorber.

    Description: On 4 July 2005, many observatories around the world and in space observed the collision of Deep Impact with comet 9P/Tempel 1 or its aftermath. This was an unprecedented coordinated observational campaign.     Description: Pulsating auroras often appear in forms of geo-stable or slowly-convecting " patches" . These patches can maintain their rough shape and size over many sequences of luminosity pulsations, yet slowly drift with ionospheric E×B convection. Because of these characteristics, there has long been speculation that the pulsating auroral patch (PAP) is connected to flux tubes filled with enhanced cold plasma. In this study, we perform a survey on pulsating auroral events when the footprints of low-Earth-orbit satellites traversed the PAPs, with a focus on the low-energy particle signatures associated with the PAPs. As a result, we identified, in a majority (~2/3) of events, the existence of a low-energy ion precipitation structure (LEIPS) that is collocated with the PAP, with core energies ranging from several tens of eV up to a few hundred eV. This result supports the hypothesis that a PAP connects to flux tubes filled with enhanced cold plasma. We further propose that the plasma outflows from the ionosphere are the origin of such cold-plasma flux tubes. We suggest that the PAP is formed by a combination of high-energy electrons of a magnetospheric origin, the low-energy plasma structure of an ionospheric origin, and certain ELF/VLF waves that are intensified and modulated in interactions with both the hot and cold plasma populations.

    Description: The motion of antiferromagnetic interfacial spins is investigated through the temperature evolution of training effect in a Co/CoO film with in-plane biaxial anisotropy. Significant differences in the training effect and its temperature dependence are observed in the magnetic easy axis and hard axis (HA) and ascribed to the different motion modes of antiferromagnetic interfacial spins, the collective spin cluster rotation (CSR) and the single spin reversal (SSR), caused by different magnetization reversal modes of ferromagnetic layer. These motion modes of antiferromagnetic spins are successfully separated using a combination of an exponential function and a classic n −1/2 function. A larger CSR to SSR ratio and a shorter lifetime of CSR found in the HA indicates that the domain rotation in the ferromagnetic layer tends to activate and accelerate a CSR mode in the antiferromagnetic spins.

    Description: The Tian Shan is a tectonically complex intracontinental orogenic belt situated between the Tarim Basin and the Kazakh Shield. The vast majority of the previous SWS measurements were presented as station averages, which are only valid when the anisotropy structure can be approximated by a single layer of anisotropy with a horizontal axis of symmetry, i.e., a model of simple anisotropy. A variety of anisotropy-forming hypotheses have been proposed based on the station-averaged measurements. In this study, we measure the splitting parameters at 25 stations that recorded high-quality data from a wide back-azimuthal range for the purpose of identifying and characterizing complex anisotropy. Among the 25 stations, 15 of them show systematic azimuthal variations in the observed splitting parameters with a 90° periodicity that is consistent with a model of 2-layered anisotropy. The fast orientations of the upper layer range from 50° to 90° measured clockwise from the north, which are subparallel to the strike of the orogenic belt, and the splitting times are between 0.9-1.9 s. The corresponding values for the lower layer are -45° to -85° and 1.2-2.2 s, respectively. The remaining 10 stations demonstrate azimuthally invariant splitting parameters with strike-parallel fast orientations, and can be represented by a single layer of anisotropy with a horizontal axis of symmetry. We propose that the strike-parallel anisotropy is caused by lithospheric shortening, and anisotropy in the lower layer is associated with WNW-ward flow of asthenospheric material sandwiched between the subducting Tarim lithosphere and the thick Kazakh lithospheric root.
