Abstract The effect of stray-capacitance neutralisation in association with microelectrodes is briefly discussed, together with a simple analysis of the principle of capacitance neutralisation. A common technique is used as an example. An alternative approach is then described where neutralisation is much less dependant on the electrode resistance. This also provides a simple means of determining the magnitude of an equivalent input capacitance, deemed to be the resultant accumulation of distributed stray capacitance. A calibration input is provided to allow the system to be set up easily.
