    Notizen: Abstract Concentrations of sulfur gases H2S and SO2 have been measured in the marine atmosphere over the Atlantic Ocean at various sites. Mean values of 40 ng H2S m-3 STP and 209 ng SO2 m-3 STP are the results of the measurements. A diurnal variation of H2S concentration was detected on the west coast of Ireland with nighttime concentrations of up to 200 ng H2S m-3 STP and values below detection limit (15 ng H2S m-3 STP) during daytime.

    Notizen: The 11α-hydroxylation of progesterone by free cells of Aspergillus ochraceus has been examined in a reactor with an aqueous and a natural oil phase. As the proportion of oil is increased, the point of inversion from a continuous aqueous phase is affected by the cell concentration, as is the optimum ratio of the phases for conversion. High oil ratios are not productive because of poor mass transfer to the concentrated cells in the aqueous phase. The cells are stable in the presence of oleic acid for at least 24 h.

    Notizen: The rate of CH4 disappearance in a shock-heated CH4:D2:Ar = 9.70:9.86:80.44 mixture was monitored by coincidence absorption of the 2948 cm-1 He-Ne laser line over the shockfront temperature range of 1900-2300K. Comparison with CH4 pyrolysis results by means of computer simulations suggested that atom and free radical chains are responsible for the homogeneous D/H exchange reaction on CH4.Additional simulations for the experimental conditions of previous single-pulse shock tube experiments led to the recognition of a high sensitivity of the exchange rate to trace amounts of hydrocarbon impurity and to the dissociation rate of CH4.
