    Description: Author(s): Lorenz S. Cederbaum, Ying-Chih Chiang, Philipp V. Demekhin, and Nimrod Moiseyev The resonant Auger process is studied in intense x-ray laser fields. It is shown that the dressing of the initial and decaying states by the field leads to coupled complex potential surfaces which, even for diatomic molecules, possess intersections at which the nonadiabatic couplings are singular.     Description: Ancient DNA makes it possible to observe natural selection directly by analysing samples from populations before, during and after adaptation events. Here we report a genome-wide scan for selection using ancient DNA, capitalizing on the largest ancient DNA data set yet assembled: 230 West Eurasians who lived between 6500 and 300 bc, including 163 with newly reported data. The new samples include, to our knowledge, the first genome-wide ancient DNA from Anatolian Neolithic farmers, whose genetic material we obtained by extracting from petrous bones, and who we show were members of the population that was the source of Europe's first farmers. We also report a transect of the steppe region in Samara between 5600 and 300 bc, which allows us to identify admixture into the steppe from at least two external sources. We detect selection at loci associated with diet, pigmentation and immunity, and two independent episodes of selection on height.〈br /〉〈span class="detail_caption"〉Notes: 〈/span〉Mathieson, Iain -- Lazaridis, Iosif -- Rohland, Nadin -- Mallick, Swapan -- Patterson, Nick -- Roodenberg, Songul Alpaslan -- Harney, Eadaoin -- Stewardson, Kristin -- Fernandes, Daniel -- Novak, Mario -- Sirak, Kendra -- Gamba, Cristina -- Jones, Eppie R -- Llamas, Bastien -- Dryomov, Stanislav -- Pickrell, Joseph -- Arsuaga, Juan Luis -- de Castro, Jose Maria Bermudez -- Carbonell, Eudald -- Gerritsen, Fokke -- Khokhlov, Aleksandr -- Kuznetsov, Pavel -- Lozano, Marina -- Meller, Harald -- Mochalov, Oleg -- Moiseyev, Vyacheslav -- Guerra, Manuel A Rojo -- Roodenberg, Jacob -- Verges, Josep Maria -- Krause, Johannes -- Cooper, Alan -- Alt, Kurt W -- Brown, Dorcas -- Anthony, David -- Lalueza-Fox, Carles -- Haak, Wolfgang -- Pinhasi, Ron -- Reich, David -- GM100233/GM/NIGMS NIH HHS/ -- Howard Hughes Medical Institute/ -- England -- Nature. 2015 Dec 24;528(7583):499-503. doi: 10.1038/nature16152.     Description: The Bronze Age of Eurasia (around 3000-1000 BC) was a period of major cultural changes. However, there is debate about whether these changes resulted from the circulation of ideas or from human migrations, potentially also facilitating the spread of languages and certain phenotypic traits. We investigated this by using new, improved methods to sequence low-coverage genomes from 101 ancient humans from across Eurasia. We show that the Bronze Age was a highly dynamic period involving large-scale population migrations and replacements, responsible for shaping major parts of present-day demographic structure in both Europe and Asia. Our findings are consistent with the hypothesized spread of Indo-European languages during the Early Bronze Age. We also demonstrate that light skin pigmentation in Europeans was already present at high frequency in the Bronze Age, but not lactose tolerance, indicating a more recent onset of positive selection on lactose tolerance than previously thought.〈br /〉〈span class="detail_caption"〉Notes: 〈/span〉Allentoft, Morten E -- Sikora, Martin -- Sjogren, Karl-Goran -- Rasmussen, Simon -- Rasmussen, Morten -- Stenderup, Jesper -- Damgaard, Peter B -- Schroeder, Hannes -- Ahlstrom, Torbjorn -- Vinner, Lasse -- Malaspinas, Anna-Sapfo -- Margaryan, Ashot -- Higham, Tom -- Chivall, David -- Lynnerup, Niels -- Harvig, Lise -- Baron, Justyna -- Della Casa, Philippe -- Dabrowski, Pawel -- Duffy, Paul R -- Ebel, Alexander V -- Epimakhov, Andrey -- Frei, Karin -- Furmanek, Miroslaw -- Gralak, Tomasz -- Gromov, Andrey -- Gronkiewicz, Stanislaw -- Grupe, Gisela -- Hajdu, Tamas -- Jarysz, Radoslaw -- Khartanovich, Valeri -- Khokhlov, Alexandr -- Kiss, Viktoria -- Kolar, Jan -- Kriiska, Aivar -- Lasak, Irena -- Longhi, Cristina -- McGlynn, George -- Merkevicius, Algimantas -- Merkyte, Inga -- Metspalu, Mait -- Mkrtchyan, Ruzan -- Moiseyev, Vyacheslav -- Paja, Laszlo -- Palfi, Gyorgy -- Pokutta, Dalia -- Pospieszny, Lukasz -- Price, T Douglas -- Saag, Lehti -- Sablin, Mikhail -- Shishlina, Natalia -- Smrcka, Vaclav -- Soenov, Vasilii I -- Szeverenyi, Vajk -- Toth, Gusztav -- Trifanova, Synaru V -- Varul, Liivi -- Vicze, Magdolna -- Yepiskoposyan, Levon -- Zhitenev, Vladislav -- Orlando, Ludovic -- Sicheritz-Ponten, Thomas -- Brunak, Soren -- Nielsen, Rasmus -- Kristiansen, Kristian -- Willerslev, Eske -- England -- Nature. 2015 Jun 11;522(7555):167-72. doi: 10.1038/nature14507.〈br /〉〈span class="detail_caption"〉Author address: 〈/span〉Centre for GeoGenetics, Natural History Museum, University of Copenhagen, Oster Voldgade 5-7, 1350 Copenhagen K, Denmark. ;
