Description / Table of Contents:
A wolfram wire is glowing in an inert gas of atmospheric pressure, containing very small concentrations of oxygen (N2 + O2; CO + CO2). The temperatures of the wire are 1500-3500°K. All the observations, that means the inversion of the transport direction of W in a temperature gradient at about 2800°K, the sharp decrease of W-“vaporization” below 1600°K and the approximate amount of W-vaporization can be understood if one assumes a thermodynamic equilibrium with species O1, O2, W1, WO2, WO3, W3O9, W4O12 on the surface of the wire.
Notes:
