    Notes: Five polymaleamides have been synthesised by the ring-opening polyaddition of N,N′-ethanedianilinebisisomaleimide (EBIMI) with aromatic diamines (having methyl or methoxy ring substituents) at room temperature; EBIMI was synthesised from N,N′-ethanedianilinebismaleamic acid. Infrared, 13C NMR, and UV-visible spectroscopies, inherent viscosity measurements, thermogravimetry, differential scanning calorimetry and mass spectrometry have been used to characterise these polymers.

    Notes: A simple procedure for the entrapment of enzymes in nylon-reinforced cellulose triacetate fibers and the fabrication of reusable enzyme brushes using such fiber bristles for the analytical determination of unknown samples have been described. As an example, enzyme brushes of lactate dehydrogenase were fabricated and were repeatedly employed for the determination of pyruvic acid in clinical samples in place of soluble enzymes. The above brush method compared well with that of wet enzymic analysis of pyruvate in clinical samples in accuracy, sensitivity, and reproducibility. The device also proved to be easy to handle, use, and reprocess for repeated analyses.

    Notes: A study has been made of the fragmentation upon electron impact of thieno(2,3-b)quinoline and sixteen of its derivatives containing methoxy, methylenedioxy, chloro, bromo, iodo, nitro and methyl substituents. Besides these, the fragmentation patterns of some S-oxides, and S,S-dioxides were also investigated. The majority of the spectra contain molecular ions and the principal fragmentation routes involve loss of carbon monosulphide and hydrogen cyanide from the molecular ion. Rearrangement of the molecular ion appears to precede the fragmentation process in the case of S,S-dioxides. The fragmentation of 4-methylthieno(2,3-b)quinoline is closely analogous to that of alkylquinolines. The main features of these spectra can be predicted from the fragmentation pathways proposed for the parent thieno(2,3-b)quinoline.
