Notes: Abstract Triphenylarsine crystallizes in the triclinic space groupP¯1 (No. 2),a=11.200(2),b=15.263(7),c=17.871(6) Å,α=84.63(5),β=80.21(5), γ=86.41(6)°,Z=8, with four molecules in the asymmetric unit. The structure was solved by direct methods and refined in the initial stages by full-matrix least squares and finally by block-diagonal least-squares methods toR=0.055 for 3537 reflections. The dimensions and the conformations of the four independent molecules are almost identical. The molecules do not exhibitC 3v symmetry.

Notes: Abstract The title compound crystallizes in the monoclinic space groupP21/n, witha=28.494(2),b=10.148(5),c=32.172(2) Å,β=94.57(1)°, andZ=8 (with two independent molecules in the asymmetric unit). The structure was solved by direct methods and refined by block-diagonal least-squares methods toR=0.057 for 12286 observed reflections. The dimensions and conformations of the two independent molecules are closely similar. The coordination around the copper and arsenic atoms is approximately tetrahedral, although distortion is considerable. Some important mean bond distances and angles with their rms standard deviations are: Cu-Cl=2.270(4), Cu-As=2.419(4), As-C=1.953(2) Å, Cl-Cu-As=105.4(1.2), and As-Cu-As=113.3(8)°.

Notes: Abstract The aim of this paper is to present a general method for computation of the geometrical elements of totally eclipsing W UMa (close, or in actual contact) binary systems in the frequency-domain. This method has been done using a new technique (two minima with the improved values of the photometric perturbation effects). The results are compared with the results calculated by different methods, that have used the same observation references. The improved photometric perturbation terms have been discussed and its effects are computed for both (primary and secondary) minima.

Notes: Abstract The aim of this paper is to present and study the light curves (B andV) of the eclipsing binary 68 u Her from the photometric observations made at Al-Battani Observatory. New photometric elements have been obtained by a Fourier analysis of the light changes in the frequency-domain.

Notes: Summary Ternary polymer blends (TPB) based on polyurethane (PU) containing tertiary amine, poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC), and poly(styrene-co-maleic anhydride) (SMA) containing 6.25% maleic acid were prepared via solution technique. The blends were investigated by using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), dynamic mechanical (DMA), stress-strain testing, and density. DSC, DMA and density results showed extensive molecular mixing of the three polymer components through ion pair-ion pair, ion pair-dipole and dipole-dipole interactions. The glass transition temperatures (Tg) of TPBs gradually merged from two distinct transitions to one transition temperature. The mechanical properties of TPBs exhibited synergistic behavior with respect to tensile strength and the stress-strain behavior similar to reinforced elastomers at low PVC or SMA contents and well-developed yield points, stress whitening and necking at high PVC or SMA contents.

Notes: Summary A method is described for determining Na+-dependent solute uptake by an established cell line derived from opossum kidney. A description is included of the use of thyroid hormones and parathyroid hormone to study hormonal regulation of the Na+/phosphate cotransport system. The protocol uses cells grown in monolayer culture in 24-well plates, a system that facilitates rapid and efficient handling of many samples exposed to different conditions within the same experiment.

Notes: Abstract The method of Fourier analysis of the light changes in the frequency-domain has been studied and discussed for 92 light curves of different types of eclipsing binary systems. Geometrical and physical elements of the systems under analysis have been listed and discussed, accordingly the advantages and disadvantages of the method is presented. The results show that the method is suitable for analysis of detached and most of the semi-detached systems, while for contact binaries and β-Lyrae-type stars it has some difficulties. The light curve synthesis method is recommended.

Notes: Abstract The system of ST Aquarii has been observed inB andV filters at KOTTAMIA Observatory in Egypt. Two light curves have been obtained and new times of minima have been calculated. The light curves have been analysed using the theory of Fourier transform of light changes in frequencydomain, and new geometrical and physical elements have been obtained.

Notes: Abstract The eclipsing binary 44i Boo was observed photoelectrically using the 40 cm Cassegrain telescope at the Al-Battani Observatory. The light curves were analysed using Fourier techniques of light changes in the frequency-domain, and new geometrical and physical elements have been obtained. A new active period to be started in 1986 has been observed.

Notes: Summary A new class of segmented poly(urethane-urea-amide) (PUUA) block copolymers contained poly(oxytetramethylene) (POTM) were prepared by direct condensation of diacid chloride with amine-terminated poly(urethane-urea) (ATPUU) oligomers. The ATPUUs were prepared from the reaction of NCO-terminated polyurethane prepolymer with different diamines. The PUUAs having reduced viscosities ranged from 0.87 to 1.82 dL/g. These polymers were soluble in various polar solvents and gave transparent, tough, and flexible films by casting from m-cresol The copolymers were studied by utilizing differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetry (TG), and tensile testing.
