    Notes: Depth profiles of Hg+, Hg2+, and Hg3+ implanted in polymer polyvinylalcohol at energies from 50 to 600 keV are measured by 2.1-MeV 4He2+ Rutherford backscattering. Based on Biersack's angular diffusion model, a computer program is written for comparison with the experimental values. The result shows that the measured projected range is in good agreement with the calculated value for first-order treatment. The experimentally determined range straggling is still higher than the calculated value after considering the second-order energy loss. The Monte Carlo simulation shows that the Hg profile is not described by an ionization or nuclear damage profile, but rather is described by a classical predicted implantation profile.

    Notes: Deacetoxy/deacetylcephalosporin C synthase (acDAOC/DACS) from Acremonium chrysogenum is a bifunctional enzyme that catalyzes both the ring-expansion of penicillin N to deacetoxycephalosporin C (DAOC) and the hydroxylation of the latter to deacetylcephalosporin C (DAC). Three residues N305, R307 and R308 located in close proximity to the C-terminus of acDAOC/DACS were each mutated to leucine. The N305L and R308L mutant acDAOC/DACSs showed significant improvement in their ability to convert penicillin analogs. R308 was identified for the first time as a critical residue for DAOC/DACS activity. Kinetic analyses of purified R308L enzyme indicated its improved catalytic efficiency is due to combined improvements of Km and kcat. Comparative modeling of acDAOC/DACS supports the involvement of R308 in the formation of substrate-binding pocket.

    Notes: MgO single crystal is mainly used as substrate for high temperature superconductor film.Surface quality of MgO substrate has significant effect on the function of high temperaturesuperconductor film. MgO single crystal is a typical hard and brittle material, and is easily cleavedalong the {100} face, so some defects are always generated on the substrate surface while lappingand polishing, which badly affects the surface quality of the substrate. In this paper, a kind oftypical defect, the triangular fracture defect which is on the substrate surface after lapping andpolishing, is analyzed in detail. According to the structure characteristics of the MgO single crystal,and based on the dislocation reaction theory, a formation mechanism of the triangular fracturedefect in lapping and polishing processes is explored. Through the single grain scratch test indifferent directions on the polished surface of MgO{100} single crystal substrates, the formationmechanism of triangular fracture defect in lapping and polishing processes is verified. And duringthe scratch test, the plastic flow of the MgO single crystal material beside the scratch was observed
