Notes: Forming gas annealing causes changes in the remanent polarization (Pr), coercive field (Ec), and leakage current (I) in both PZT [Pb(Zr,Ti)O3] and SBT (SrBi2Ta2O9) samples with a variety of top electrode materials (Pt, Au, Ag, Cu, Ni, and In2O3), and the degree of degradation depends strongly on the top electrode material. These results may be explained by a model that is based on the catalytic activities of the top electrode to dissociate hydrogen molecules into hydrogen atoms, with the latter subsequently migrating into PZT or SBT films to cause oxygen deficiency and its associated property degradation. This model can be expanded to explain the recovery phenomenon resulting from oxygen annealing, which also depends on the catalytic activity of the top electrode to produce atomic oxygen from molecular oxygen. © 1997 American Institute of Physics.

Notes: We have made ferroelectric memory capacitors by depositing a SrBi2Ta2O9 thin film on a Si substrate separated by an ultrathin buffer layer of silicon nitride film. The hysteresis in the capacitance–voltage curves suggests a sizable memory window of 2 V with a programming voltage swing of ±7 V. The switching time is estimated to be on the order of nanosecond based on the results of a one-shot pulse experiment. The results from the fatigue test indicate a slight degradation of the memory window after 1011 switching cycles. These properties are encouraging for the development of ferroelectric memory transistors. © 1998 American Institute of Physics.

Notes: Arsenate reductase (AR) in B. subtilis is encoded by the chromosomal arsC gene. Together with arsB and arsR, arsC participates in detoxification processes for the arsenate and arsenite ions. Full-length arsenate reductase without any modification has been expressed in Escherichia coli and purified in a soluble form. The recombinant protein has been crystallized at 277 K using polyethyleneglycol (PEG) or poly(ethyleneglycol) methyl ether (PME) as the main precipitant. At least two forms of crystals large enough for data collection have been obtained from wild-type protein under different conditions. An orthorhombic crystal diffracted to beyond 2.2 Å with space group P212121 and unit-cell parameters a = 51.22, b = 91.62, c = 101.93 Å. A near-complete data set has been collected to 2.5 Å. The application of the flash-annealing technique was crucial for high resolution during the data collection. The SeMet-substituted AR has also been produced and crystallized under very similar conditions as the wild type, but the unit-cell parameters are very different. The crystals of the SeMet protein diffracted to higher resolution than those of the wild type.

Notes: Cutting force model for flat end milling and dynamic model of cam milling system wereestablished based on the analysis of machining system for parallel indexing cam contour milling.Solution for dynamic performance of this kind of milling system has been introduced. A system, consisting of NC milling machine SK1632K3, tooling and workpiece, has been taken as example toanalyze how cutting speed, feeding, or processing redundancy influence the dynamic performance ofmachining system. Furthermore, milling error of cam contour has been evaluated corresponding todifferent machining parameters. Simulation and analysis results are very close to practicalmanufacturing situation

Notes: Shape memory alloy (SMA) has many potential applications as an actuator in smart material systems due to its abilities of shape memory, pseudo-elasticity, high damping and wear resistant. In this paper, a smart concrete beam has been developed by taking advantage of the shape memory effect of SMA and the characteristic of applying large forces on the resisting member in the transformation of SMA on heating. Deformation behavior and influence of factors on the deformation behavior of SAM smart concrete beam were investigated experimentally. Actuation mechanics of SMA was analyzed. Experimental results show that SMA wires significantly increase structural survivability and allow structural to recover from residual deformation by damaged earthquake and typhoon, and the crack almost closes completely after electrically heating the SMA wires. The number or areas of SMA wires has no influence on the tendency of deformation during loading and the tendency of reversion by heating. An increasing of the initial pre-strain of SMA wire can significantly improve the capacity of self-restoration of SMA concrete beams, but the steel main bars play a very negative role in reducing residual deformation

Notes: The influence of leucite on dental porcelain properties is investigated in this paper. The nanosized leucite powder prepared by sol-gel method was added into a low-fusing temperature frit to fabricate dental porcelain fused to metal. The porcelains with different leucite contents were sintered at the temperatures ranging from 780° to 900°C. The flexural strength and the thermal expansion coefficient (TEC) of the dental porcelain containing leucite particles are evaluated. The micro- structure and phases of the porcelain are characterized and the mechanism that nanosized leucite particles strengthening the porcelain is discussed

Notes: Accurate stress intensity solutions for multiple site damage (MSD) cracks in rivetedstiffened panels are difficult to determine due to geometric complexity along with variations in rivetload transfer and corrosion, especially the interaction of MSD cracks. A methodology was proposedfor efficiently depicting rivet in stiffened panel using finite elements. Rivet material properties weredetermined based on an empirical force-displacement relationship, for highly refined rivet model aswell as for idealized spring element representations of rivets. Parametric studies of panels with amiddle crack and a central stiffener indicate that rivets can provide comparable load transfer andrelative displacement if the rivets closed to the crack are explicit modeled. Using idealizedcombination of explicitly and spring element representations of rivets, the stress intensity factors(SIFs) for uncorroded and corroded one-bay stiffened panels were predicted. The results show that theeffect of MSD and thinning of the sheet is to increase substantially SIFs values compare to that of asingle crack without corrosion. But the SIF is insensitive to corrosion of stiffener. The particular rivetmaterial has relatively little effect on SIF values, while the rivet diameter has a significant effect

Notes: It is innovative to combine abrasive jet machining and conventional grinding together inthis thesis. And it realizes a new sort of grinding wheel restricted with abrasive jet processing. Thethree-dimensional mathematical model of hydrodynamic pressure of wedge-like grinding zonebetween grinding wheel and workpiece on abrasive jet finishing with wheel as restraint wasestablished, and the finite elements simulation analysis for the hydrodynamic pressure wasimplemented. This paper investigated the liquid hydrodynamic pressure, the regularities ofdistributing of velocity, influencing factors and the affection for processing technique
