Summary Purification and characterization of an exoamylase fromPseudomonas stutzeri are discribed. The enzyme, which has a high specifity to α-1,4- glucosidic linkages, was found to be bound to α-1.6-linked dextrans, so that it may be easily separated from other proteins by adsorption to Sephadex G-100 and subsequent elution with a salt gradient or a starch containing buffer. This unexpected behaviour of thePseudomonas stutzeri amylase is compared to that of other amylases.
