Description / Table of Contents:
Pb(C5H5)4 (I) undergoes in liquid ammonia in the presence of KNH2, a complete ammonolysis the phenyl groups being split off as benzene, yielding the amidosalt K[Pb(NH2)3] (III) with bivalent Pb. As a by-product a nitrogen compound (II) of Pb(IV) separates out as an explosive black precipitate. The formation of III is accompanied by evolution of N2 as the only product of oxidation. In the course of the conductometric titration of III in liquid NH3 by successive addition of NH4NO3, giving another proof of its above formulation, a yellow solid precipitates which has probably the composition of an ammonobasic nitrate, Pb(NH2)NO3 (IV). III decomposes to K[Pb(NH)NH2] (V) in a current of N2 at 20°C by elimination of one molecule of NH3.
Notes:
Pb(C6H5)4 (I) erleidet in fl.
