Notes: High frequency ultrasonic waves of frequency 1 Mc/s. have been employed to study the decolourization of dilute aqueous solution of crystal violet. The process is irreversible and the kinetic study shows it to be unimolecular one. The deaeration of the solution by nitrogen does not affect the rate of the decolourization. The addition of certain substances such as alcohol, acetone, ether, glycerine, dioxan and allylthiourea inhibits the decolourization to a considerable extent. Oxidation and subsequent destruction of the dye molecule has been found to be the cause of the fading of the dye solution.

Notes: During slow coagulation of Ferric Hydroxide slo with NaCI and KCI, the ageing effect on the constants a, m, and n of BHATTACHARYA's equation, \documentclass{article}\pagestyle{empty}\begin{document}$$ 1/{\rm c} - {\rm a} = \frac{{\rm n}}{{\rm m}} \cdot {\rm t} + {\rm l/m} $$\end{document} has been studied. A decrease in the values of a, m and n has been found on ageing of the sol.

Description / Table of Contents: Polyester- und Polyamid-Garn wurden in Gegenwart von Chemikalien wie Ammoniak, Chlor, Methylmethacrylat, Vinylacetat und Acrylnitril mit kontrollierten Dosen von γ-Strahlen bestrahlt.
Notes: Polyester and polyamide yarns have been irradiated under controlled doses of γ-rays in presence of chemicals like gaseous ammonia and chlorine as also methyl methacrylate, vinyl acetate, and acrylonitrile monomers. The irradiated monomers have been tested for some of the more important physico-chemical and mechanical properties. The results indicate that the improvements obtained in various desirable properties are of much higher order when irradiation is carried out in presence of the chemicals employed.

Notes: Polyester and polyamide yarns have been exposed to γ-rays with varying doses of irradiation, both in vacuum and in the presence of air. The changes in such properties of the polymers as melting point, relative viscosity, tensile strength, and dye absorption have been investigated. The results of the present study indicate that, though with higher doses there is degradation of the polymer, under controlled conditions certain desirable properties of the fibre are greatly improved without affecting the mechanical strength.

Notes: The formation of a red coloured chelate between divalent cobalt and tri sodium salt of sulpho-dichlorohydroxy dimethyl fuchson dicarboxylic acid (CAS) with λmax at 450 mμ has been reported. The composition of the chelate employing spectrophotometric method has been determined by the continuous variation, mole ratio and slope ratio methods. The chelate has a composition corresponding to Co(CAS)2 and is stable between the pH range 10.5 to 11.5. Stability constant of the chelate has been found to be (log K = 8.00) involving a free energy change of formation ΔG° = -11.0 K cals.

Notes: Reactions of tantalum pentaalkoxides (ethoxide, isopropoxide and tertiarybutoxide with acetyl bromide give the products: Ta(OEt)4Br; Ta(OEt)3Br2; Ta(OEt)2Br3 · MeCO2Et; Ta(OEt)Br4 · MeCO2Et; Ta(OPr1)4Br; Ta(OPr1)3Br2; Ta(OPr1)2Br3 · MeCO2Pr1; TaOBr3. MeCo2Pr1; Ta(OBut)4Br and TaOBr3 · MeCO2But. These products were found to be viscous liquids or solids. All these bromide alkoxides except the tertiarybutoxide derivatives were found to be soluble in benzene. The tetraalkoxide monobromide derivatives could either be distilled or sublimed unchanged under reduced pressure. The tetraalkoxide monobromide derivative was found to be dimeric in boiling benzene.

Notes: The cationic polymerization of 3.3-bis-(chloromethyl)-oxacyclobutane with anhydrous aluminium chloride was studied varying the temperature, initiator concentration, and reaction time in order to get a polymer of high molecular weight. The viscosity-molecular weight relationship of this polymer was determined in cyclohexanone. A mechanism similar to that proposed for BF3 as initiator has been put forwarded in the light of experimental results obtained.

Notes: Following three types of new compounds (EtO)3M(glycol), (EtO)M(glycol)2 and M(glycol)3 (where M is niobium or tantalum) were isolated by the reactions of niobium and tantalum pentaethoxides with various glycols (butane-1.3-diol, neopentyl glycol and hexane-1.6-diol). Molecular weights of the few soluble compounds show that they are dimeric in benzene.

Description / Table of Contents: Die Reaktion der Pentaähoxide von Niob und Tantal mit Brenzkatechin (B—H2) liefert die neuen Verbindungstypen (ÄtO)3M(B), (ÄtO)M(B)2 und M(B)3.
Notes: Reactions of niobium and tantalum pentathoxides with catechol have been studied in different stoichiometric ratios and the following three types of new derivatives, (EtO)3M (Catechol); (EtO)M(Catechol)2 and M(Catechol)3 (M = Nb; Ta) have been isolated. The mono- and di-catechol derivatives interchange their ethoxide groups with tertiary butanol yielding the corresponding tertiary butoxide derivatives.
