    Notes: Zusammenfassung Die Sauerstoffdissoziationskurve vomLatimeria-Blut zeigt eine grössere Affinität zu Sauerstoff bei 15°C (P50=2–3 mm) als bei 28°C (P50=18.0 mm). Diese Unterschiede und die geringe Sauerstoffkapazität sind für eine Diskussion über das Überleben des Fisches beim Aufsteigen aus grosser Tiefe an die Gewässeroberfläche massgebend.

    Notes: Zusammenfassung Es wird ein Überblick über neuere Forschungen gegeben, die das weite Arbeitsgebiet des Mechanismus der Fischatmung betreffen. Nachdruck wird auf den vergleichenden Standpunkt einer solchen Forschungsarbeit gelegt, wobei gezeigt wird, dass die Wahl besonderer Spezies ein förderndes Licht auf allgemein wichtige Probleme werfen kann, die bei Kiemenuntersuchungen sowohl auf der Makrostrukturstufe wie auf der Ultrastrukturstufe auftreten. Vom physiologischen Standpunkt aus gesehen, erweisen sich einige Arten auf Grund ihrer Lebensweise für experimentelle Untersuchungen ihres Sauerstoffverbrauchs besonders geeignet. Die strukturelle Anordnung des Pumpenmechanismus anderer Arten erleichert wiederum äusserst günstig die Direktmessung des Ventilationsvolumens und anderer mit dem Gasaustausch zusammenhängender Parameter.

    Notes: Résumé Quelques propriétés respiratoires du sang de la raie (Raia clavata) ont été déterminées avec des échantillons de cathéter intravasculaire. Chaque échantillon était utilisé seulement pour deux points de la courbe de dissociation −O2−, parce que les propriétés changent après une demie-heure. On a constaté un effet de Bohr (Δ log P50/Δ pH=−0.25±0.03) ainsi que celui d'Haldane.

    Notes: Abstract The objective of this study was to determine if thermophilic fungi exist in the mycoflora of man and in the aeroflora of his environment.Humicola lanuginosa andHumicola grisea were isolated from 5 of 55 samples of outside air. Three thousand cultures were taken from the nasal mucosae, skin surfaces and recta of 570 children. Cultures were incubated at 50°C. Thermophilic fungi were isolated from 6 of 287 children receiving immunosuppressive therapy for malignancies and from 1 of 283 normal children.H. lanuginosa was recovered from the skin of one, the rectum of one and the nasal mucosae of three patients.Mucor pusillus was isolated from the nasopharynges of two patients. Further studies are now indicated to determine the pathogenicity of these organisms with respect to tissue invasive disease, antigenicity and metabolite toxicity.

    Notes: Résumé Le chlorure de 1,1′-octaméthylène et le méthylsulfate de 5,5′-octaméthylènebis ont chez le chat un effet de blocage neuro-musculaire non dépolarisant, de courte durée. Les comparaisons faites avec des analogues voisins suggèrent que l'activité de ces composés est influencée par le degré d'empêchement stérique autour des atomes d'azote quaternaire. Les composés inhibent les acétylcholinestérases et s'opposent à des degrés divers aux effects muscariniques de l'acétylcholine.

Die Gesamtlänge der Filamente ist relativ kurz, doch ähnlich derjenigen von Tiefseefischen. Die Gesamtfläche der Kiemen ist auffallen kleim im Verhältnis zum Körpergewicht. Die Sekundärlamellen weisen in ihrer Ultrastruktur gewisse Ähnlichkeiten zu Elasmobranchien auf.

    Notes: Summary A new method for evaluating histamine antagonists in man is described based on diminution of the effects of intradermal histamine. The inter and intra subject variability of such effects is examined experimentally and previous descriptions reviewed. Measures are adopted to minimise the effects and so achieve maximum economy of drug administrations and subjects. The method is exemplified by comparisons of activity of different preparations of triprolidine and of cyclizine and chlorcycline.
