    Notizen: The solution with the aid of the hybrid computer of the partial and total differential equations for an integrated surface water groundwater system is described.A versatile computing technique has been developed to make a rapid and accurate study of the groundwater response due to varying inputs (deep percolation) or outputs (evapotranspiration) from the groundwater system. Spatial variations in basic vegetation phenomena, such as pattern, and hydrological parameters, are represented by means of a grid network which also allows the input of variable boundary conditions. The model is applied to an area in Columbia, South America which is subject to high water-table conditions. Various reclamation schemes and management practices under conditions of irrigated agriculture are assessed.

    Notizen: Summary A 38-year-old woman, who 5 years earlier had undergone a jejunoileal bypass for gross obesity, fractured the distal forearm by a minor trauma. Circulating 25-hydroxycholecalciferol was undetactable without vitamin D3 supplement but increased to the lower normal range on a daily dose of 1200 units of vitamin D3. Serum 1,25-dihydroxycholecalciferol was, however, in the upper normal range, both without and with vitamin D supplement. After intestinal reanastomosis the fracture healed and the biochemical changes normalized. Malabsorption due to reduced amount of functioning intestine may cause severe metabolic bone disease, which may not always be reverted by a high-calcium diet and vitamin D supplementation.

    Notizen: Abstract A resource based ecological competition model with interference is proposed. The model is based on Lotka-Volterra dynamics with two predators competing for a single, limited prey. Interference effects are considered in this article. When the interference coefficient, expressing the damage effect from its rival, is small, the mathematical analysis shows that the winner in purely exploitative competition still outcompetes its rival. However, if the interference coefficient is large enough then the competition outcome will depend on initial population of predator species.

    Notizen: Abstract In this paper we derive some results to ensure the global stability of a predator-prey system. The results cover most of the models which have been proposed in the ecological literature for predator-prey systems. The first result is very geometric and it is very easy to check from the graph of prey and predator isoclines. The second one is purely algebraic, however, it covers the defects of the first one especially in dealing with Holling's type-3 functional response in some sense. We also discuss the global stability of Kolmogorov's model. Some examples are presented in the discussion section.

    Notizen: Abstract This paper deals with the motion of viscous liquid column with finite length and two free surfaces in a vertical straight capillary tube. It is assumed that fluid is Newtonian. Linearizing the boundary conditions, analytic expressions in the form of infinite series have been obtained for velocity, pressure and free surface at low Reynolds number. The numerical calculation is carried out for a set of cylinder's length of water and blood. It has been revealed that there are considerable circulating currents at the upper and lower meniscuses. Its maximum velocity is about 57% of the average velocity of the mainstream. Inertial effect is also studied in this paper. Using the time-dependent method in finite difference techniques, numerical solution of the corresponding nonlinear equation atRe≤24.5 is computed. Comparing it with analytic exact solution at low Reynolds number shows that inertial effect is negligible providedRe≤24.5.

    Notizen: Abstract The formation of atherosclerosis in a curved aorta is closely related to the existence of separated vortex region. This paper deals with the steady laminar motion of an incompressible Newtonian fluid through a curved tube with circular cross-section whose curvature is small and whose curvature gradient is not too large. Using the momentum integral method and the approximation of quasi-constant curvature, an equation which determines the location of separation and reattachment is derived. From this equation the earliest point of separation and the corresponding critical Reynolds number are obtained, and the relation between the position of separation and reattachment and Reynolds number Re for different azimuthal angle are revealed. It is concluded that the separation first emerges at the position whose curvature gradient has the maximum absolute value. With increasing Re, the separation region extends in the direction of mainstream, azimuthal angle and radius vector, and then forms a three-dimensional separated vortex, which gradually enlarges in all three directions with the increase of Reynolds number. The theoretical results also very clearly demonstrate the following striking experimental fact: if a symmetrical curved tube exhibits a separated vortex at the outside of the upstream, then it must have another one symmetrically placed at the inside of its downstream.
