Notes:
Summary The crystal structures of four C 2/c pyroxenes of formula X12 Mgt 1 [Si2O6], crystallized in the temperature range 1200-1300 °C and at atmospheric pressure in the CaMgSi2O6-SrMgSi2O6-Mg2Si2O6 (Di-SrPx-En) plane, were refined. Crystal chemical formulae, cell parameters and finalR values are: $$\begin{gathered} (Ca_{0.90} Sr_{0.10} )MgSi_2 O_6 \hfill \\ a = 9.751(2), b = 8.941(1), c = 5.250(1){\AA}, \beta = 105.82(2)^ \circ , R = 3.6\% ; \hfill \\ (Ca_{0.80} Sr_{0.20} )MgSi_2 O_6 \hfill \\ a = 9.758(3), b = 8.973(3), c = 5.253(1){\AA}, \beta = 105.67(3)^ \circ , R = 4.6\% ; \hfill \\ (Ca_{0.75} Sr_{0.15} Mg_{0.10} )MgSi_2 O_6 : \hfill \\ a = 9.750(2), b = 8.953(2), c = 5.249(1){\AA}, \beta = 105.98(3)^ \circ , R = 3.0\% ; \hfill \\ (Ca_{0.75} Sr_{0.20} Mg_{0.05} )MgSi_2 O_6 : \hfill \\ a = 9.763(2), b = 8.980(3), c = 5.252(1){\AA}, \beta = 105.73(3)^ \circ , R = 3.5\% . \hfill \\ \end{gathered} $$ The two Mg-rich clinopyroxenes were refined according to a split model for the M 2 site, assuming Mg ordered in a M 2′ position. The results of the refinements show that the Ca, Sr, Mg substitution significantly modifies the M 2 polyhedron along they axis, and explain the different trend of the b cell parameter in the Sr-rich pyroxenes with respect to the Ca-Mg clinopyroxenes.
