    Description / Table of Contents: Summary There exist different approaches to calculate the reorderpoint for inventory problems having stochastic lead times. On the one hand lead times can explicitly be forecasted whereas on the other hand one can measure fullfilled demand without any reference to lead times. These approaches can be considered as feedforeward and feedback procedures respectively. The main object of the paper is a comparison of both methods for different scenarios and criteria.
    Notes: Zusammenfassung In Lagerhaltungsproblemen mit stochastischen Lieferfristschwankungen kann der Bestellpunkt grundsätzlich nach zwei unterschiedlichen Verfahren berechnet werden; entweder durch explizites Bilden von Lieferfristprognosen oder durch die Erfassung nicht befriedigter Nachfrage. Diese grundsätzlich unterschiedlichen Vorgehensweisen stellen Feedforeward- bzw. Feedbackverfahren dar. Gegenstand der Arbeit ist ein Vergleich beider Verfahren in unterschiedlichen Problem-situationen hinsichtlich verschiedener Kriterien.

    Notes: Abstract In this paper the asymptotic behaviour of entropy numbers and eigenvalues of weakly singular integral operators acting between Lp-spaces over arbitrary bounded open domains in ℝN are investigated. The singularities contain not only power but also logarithmic terms. In particular, we consider the case where the (power) order of the singularity equals half of the dimension of the domain, thus refining earlier results of H. König [6].

    Notes: Abstract A neural network is called nonlinear if the introduction of new data into the synaptic efficacies has to be performed through anonlinear operation. The original Hopfield model is linear, whereas, for instance, clipped synapses constitute a nonlinear model. Here a general theory is presented to obtain the statistical mechanics of a neural network with finitely many patterns and arbitrary (symmetric) nonlinearity. The problem is reduced to minimizing a free energy functional over all solutions of a fixed-point equation with synaptic kernelQ. The case of clipped synapses with bimodal and Gaussian probability distribution is analyzed in detail. To this end, a simple theory is developed that gives the spectrum ofQ and thereby all the solutions that bifurcate from the high-temperature phase.

    Notes: Abstract The possibilities of the search for dibaryon states in the deuteron break up by pions by means of the measurement of kinematically complete spectra are discussed. Such experiments provide the additional possibility to measure cross sections of the resonance in dependence on the transferred momentum. In this way one is able to prove the rigidity of the composite system, which may be considered as a signature of the 6q-nature of the found resonances.

    Notes: Summary A crossflow-microscreen cultivation technique was successfully used to select and maintain an easily harvestable microbial culture with a limited number of species under non-aseptic conditions in diluted cheese whey. The microbial selective pressure exerted by the system could be manipulated by varying the hydraulic (θ) and mean cell (θϰ) residence times. The optimum system parameters were θ=1 h and θϰ=10 h, resulting in a selected microbial population comprising three species only, namely Geotrichum candidum, Streptococcus cremoris and Leuconostoc lactophilum. The amino acid profile of the SCP produced compared favourably with other types of protein. The crossflow-microscreen technique makes SCP production possible from dilute, waste organic effluents.

    Notes: Summary Microbial amperometric sensors for biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) determination using Bacillus subtilis or Trichosporon cutaneum cells immobilized in polyvinylalcohol have been developed. These sensors allow BOD measurements with very short response times (15–30s), a level of precision of ±5% and an operation stability of 30 days. A linear range was obtained for a B. subtilis-based sensor up to 20 mg/l BOD and for a T. cutaneum-based sensor up to 100 mg/l BOD using a glucose/glutamic acid standard.

    Notes: Summary The glomerular epithelial cells of the rat kidney fixed by vascular perfusion with an aldehyde solution containing either safranine O or alcian blue (and 0.3 M MgCl2) display filaments which are located close to the outer surface of the plasma membrane. These filaments are similar to those revealed by the same methods in the laminae rarae of the glomerular basement membrane. Alcian blue (and MgCl2) further demonstrates the presence of anionic sites inside the endothelial cell pores of the glomerular and peritubular capillaries, on the luminal surface of endothelial cells of large renal vessels and along the basolateral surface of the epithelial cells of the Bowman capsule and of the proximal convoluted tubule.
