    Notes: A general synthetic strategy for the preparation of polyazamacrocycles containing long aliphatic chains is reported. These compounds are 22- or 24-membered hexaazamacrocycles incorporating two diethylenetriamine subunits (H2NCH2CH2NHCH2CH2NH2) linked together either by two CH2CH2OCH2CH2 (see 4-6), two tetramethylene (see 7), or two pentamethylene (see 8) fragments. Whereas for compound 4, one of the centrally located amine functionalities of the triamine subunit bears a hexadecyl chain, for compound 5, two of such chains are centrally attached to both subunits. In macrocycles 6-8, all six amino functionalities bear hexadecyl chains. Compounds 4-8 are potential candidates for the construction of selective chemical sensors such as specific electrodes for adenosine mono-, di-, and tri-phosphate. They may also be used for nucleoside polyphosphates extraction and/or transport.

    Morphology of polymer wear debris resulting from different contact conditions (1992)

    Notes: An investigation into the wear process of five polymers tested under different contact conditions is presented. Polymer pin on metal plate and metal pin on polymer plate configurations were used. The metal pin on polymer plate configuration gave significantly lower wear rates compared to that observed for the polymer pin on metal plate configuration. The results are discussed in terms of morphology of wear debris generated.

    Notes: A Simple Entry into the Series of Tetracyclic Hetero- and Secoyohimbanes, Strychnos and Oxindole AlkaloidsThe divinylogous urethane 4a reacts in diluted acetic acid to give the indolochinolizine 9 (yield 40%). The total amount grows up to 65%, if compound 14, prepared from 4a in nearly quantitative yield, is allowed to react with trifluoroacetic acid for a few minutes. Similarily, 4b and 4c give by treatment with SnCl2 and heat in an [4+2]-cycloaddition reaction the spiroindolines 17 and 18. Oxytryptamine reacts with 2 moles of 2 to give immediately the spirooxindole 21. This compound can be rearranged to give 23 (after treatment with acid, reduction and catalytic hydrogenation). 23 has the cis-configuration of rhyncophylline.

Reductive decarboxylation gives the target compound deplancheine (4a) in excellent overall yield.
