Abstract The band-structure of Pd(110) was studied by k-resolved inverse photoemission (IPE). The data are interpreted on the basis of a relativistic band-structure calculation. Apart from direct bulk band transitions, weak surface umklapp and surface emission features are observed. Four different surface state bands could be detected in the gaps at X and Y. An anomalous temperature behaviour is found for a transition into the d-bands close to the Fermi level. Finally, structures resulting from LEED reflections are identified in the IPE spectra and their characteristics are discussed.
