Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung Ultraschallbestrahlung (1 MHz, 225 W/cm2) erlauben die Untersuchung der Entfärbung von wä\riger Safranin-O-Lösung.
Notes: Summary Ultrasonic radiation from Mullard generator with barium titanate crystal as transducer having a frequency of 1 Mc/sec and power output 225 w/sq. cm. have been used to study the decolorization of aqueous solution of safranine O. Absorption curves obtained from spectrophotometric data demonstrate the fading of the colour of the dyestuff with the time of exposure. Diacetone alcohol, n-propyl alcohol, n-butyl alcohol, ethyl alcohol, dioxan and ether inhibit the decolorization. Hydrogen peroxide does not help the decolorization. Cavitation is responsible for breaking the molecules of the dye.

Notes: Summary The influence of ultrasonic waves at 1 MC/sec and 225 watts/cm2 power on the negatively charged manganese dioxide sol has been investigated in an atmosphere of nitrogen and thereby excluding oxygen. The stability of the sol on exposure to ultrasonic waves is affected in a similar way as in presence of air but the extent to which the sol gets unstable on exposure is less in the absence of oxygen than in its presence. The specific conductivity increases but hydrogen ion concentration remains practically constant as the time of exposure increases.

Notes: Abstract Seven varieties of buckwheat, two Indian selections (F. esculentum, F. tetaricum) and five from Poland (Czernoplodna, Hruszowska, Jubilejna, Emka and Iskra) were cultivated under North Indian conditions and analysed for their protein and amino acid composition. The present studies revealed that European selections can also be successfully cultivated in India. Buckwheat is a good source of lysine, and some other essential amino acids.

Absorption curves obtained from spectrophotometric data demonstrate the fading of the colour of the dyestuff with the time of exposure. The presence of small amount of ethyl alcohol inhibits the fading. Cavitation and oxidation due to the presence of some activated oxygen from the dissolved air seem to be the cause of fading.

Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung Ultraschallbestrahlung mit einemMullard-Generator und Bariumtitanatkristall als Übertrager (1 MHz) diente zur Beobachtung der Entfärbung wäßriger Bromkresolgrünlösungen. Absorption curves obtained from spectrophotometric data demonstrate the fading of the colour of the dyestuff with the time of exposure. The presence of small amount of ethyl alcohol, n-propyl alcohol, n-butyl alcohol, diacetone alcohol and acetone separately inhibit the fading. Cavitation seems to be the cause of decolorization.

Notes: Summary The natural product asperlicin is the first nonpeptide antagonist of cholecystokinin isolated from a microbial source. At discovery, production of asperlicin by the original soil isolate ofAspergillus alliaceus was between 15 and 30 mg/l. Selection of natural variants ofA. alliaceus, use of Plackett & Burman and Simplex experimental designs; formulation of synthetic media; amino acid supplementation of production media; analysis of complex nitrogen sources for their amino acid content; evaluation of promising media in fermentors; substitution of glycerol for glucose as a carbon source and rational mutant selection all contributed to titer increases to 〉900 mg/l.

Notes: Abstract The network loading problem (NLP) is a specialized capacitated network design problem in which prescribed point-to-point demand between various pairs of nodes of a network must be met by installing (loading) a capacitated facility. We can load any number of units of the facility on each of the arcs at a specified arc dependent cost. The problem is to determine the number of facilities to be loaded on the arcs that will satisfy the given demand at minimum cost. This paper studies two core subproblems of the NLP. The first problem, motivated by a Lagrangian relaxation approach for solving the problem, considers a multiple commodity, single arc capacitated network design problem. The second problem is a three node network; this specialized network arises in larger networks if we aggregate nodes. In both cases, we develop families of facets and completely characterize the convex hull of feasible solutions to the integer programming formulation of the problems. These results in turn strengthen the formulation of the NLP.
