    Notizen: To increase the x-ray optical contrast of Mo/Si multilayers, we study low energy hydrogen ion implantation of amorphous Si layers. Using elastic recoil detection and Rutherford backscattering spectrometry, we measure the result of hydrogen implantation on Si atomic density. We find a lowering of Si atomic density, and, thus, an enhancement of x-ray optical contrast, as a result of H implantation. We find that the Si atomic density saturates at a minimum of 64±5% of the crystalline value. We have also observed a minor smoothing effect of H+ ion bombardment. Combined with Kr+ ion bombardment, causing a very much larger smoothing of the Si surface, the atomic density is found to saturate at a minimum of 77±5% of the crystalline value. © 1996 American Institute of Physics.

    Notizen: HgBa2CuO4+δ (Hg1201) samples with 0.03≤δ≤0.4 have been obtained. The magnetization of the powdered Hg1201 samples was determined using a Quantum Design SQUID magnetometer. It was observed that while the magnetization of Hg1201 increased with δ in the underdoped region, the magnetization decreased with δ in the overdoped region. These results suggest an increase of ns/m* with oxidation in the underdoped region and a decrease in the overdoped region, similar to that reported in underdoped HTSs and overdoped Tl2201 and Tl1201. © 1996 American Institute of Physics.

    Notizen: The crystal structure of [Ni(C2H5OCS2)2(C14H12N2)] cis- [Ni(EtXA)2(2,9-dmphen)] (EtXA = ethyl xanthate, 2,9-dmphen = 2,9-dimethyl-1,10-phenanthroline), containing a distorted octahedral NiS4N2 core, is reported. The Ni—S bond lengths range from 2.376 (2) to 2.522 (2) Å and the Ni—N bond lengths are 2.107 (4) and 2.153 (3) Å, while the N(1)—Ni—N(2) chelate angle is 78.3 (1)°.

    Notizen: Abstract Since 1992 the solar tower telescope of Nanjing University (118°51′ E, 32°03′ N) as well as its multichannel solar spectrograph, originally established in 1982, have been reconstructed and a two-channel imaging spectrograph has been operated successfully. The apertures of the coelostat and the secondary mirror are both 60 cm. The spherical objective mirror, having an aperture of 43 cm and a focal length of 2170 cm, produces a solar image of 20 cm diameter. Two auxiliary telescopes using a small fraction of the coelostat's aperture were set up for guiding and Hα monochromatic monitoring. A multichannel spectrograph can be operated in six wavebands simultaneously. A CCD imaging spectrograph can be used for data acquisition at Hα and Caii K line wavebands automatically and simultaneously. The instrument consists of two CCD cameras, an image processor (SR-151), a personal computer, and a mechanical scanning device. The principal characteristics of the instruments are described. Some observational results are presented as examples.

    Notizen: Abstract We have observed a δ-independent linear pressure effect on Tc of HgBa2CuO4+δ under hydrostatic pressures up to 1.7 GPa for δ≤0.30 but a nonlinear effect for δ〉0.30. These results, together with previous doping data, show a possible non-rigidity of the electron bands of the compounds, based on which previous phenomenological models of the pressure effect on Tc are built, and thus suggest only a restricted universality for the inverse parabolic relation between Tc and charge carriers per CuO2-layer. In other words, factors in addition to charge carriers can affect high temperature superconductivity.

    Notizen: Abstract The magnetic penetration depth λ(T) of three HgBa2CuO4+δ samples with 0.16 〈 δ ≤ 0.27 has been determined from the reversible magnetization. The obtained λ follows a BCS-like correlation of 1/λ2 ∝ 1−(T/Tc)2 over whole measured temperature range in an underdoped sample with Tc ∼ 90 K, but deviates significantly from similar fits in an overdoped sample with the same Tc and an optimum doped sample, whose 1/λ2 's depends on T nearly linearly below Tc/2. This asymmetry between the underdoped and overdoped samples suggests that the T-dependence of 1/λ2 is affected by doping in a complicated way.

    Notizen: Free radical polymerization of liquid ethylacrylate in the presence of zeolite 13X yielded PIPNs without crosslinker and IPNs if the crosslinker ethylene glycol dimethacrylate was present. We studied these materials both unextracted as well as partially extracted with a variety of solvents using DSC, SEM as well as Small Angle X-ray Scattering (SAXS). These studies suggest that in the composites polyethylacrylate chains entered the internal pores of the zeolite. These chains had an extended state and did not exhibit a bulk glass transition, a similar behavior to that previously reported for polystyrene/zeolite 13X composite. © 1996 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.

    Notizen: Abstract We present the results of μSR measurements of the transverse field relaxation rate below Tc for seven samples of HgBa2 CuO4+\delta, spanning the underdoped, optimally doped, and nominally overdoped regions of the superconducting phase. On comparison with the “anomalous” thermopower data for these compounds, we find that nominally “overdoped” Hg 1:2:0:1 resembles underdoped compounds in certain respects.

    Notizen: This paper presents a numerical routine to compute the contact characteristics of elastomer layered cylinders lubricated by isoviscous liquids. The indentation of the elastic layer is calculated from boundary integral equations which are solved by linear and quadratic boundary element methods for a finite plane model and a circular representation of the junction. The hydrodynamic equation is also transformed into a boundary integral equation and solved by Simpson's rule. Some factors which possibly affect numerical accuracy are examined. Examples for finite plane and circular layer are analysed with reference to parameters for printing press roller contact, in which results are obtained for the indentation, film thickness and liquid pressure, as well as internal stresses through the simultaneous solution of the elasticity and hydrodynamic equations. The results show that high precision is easily achieved and the method is efficient for such layered problems.
