Description: InGaAs/InGaAsP strained quantum well buried heterostructure and distributed feedback lasers emitting at wavelengths as long as 2.06 micrometers with low internal loss and threshold currents have been demonstrated for the first time. The room and high temperature characteristics and the threshold gain are discussed.

Description: In this Letter we propose the use of partial wave dispersion relations (DR's) as the way of solving the long-standing problem of correctly incorporating exchange in a valid DR for electron-atom scattering. In particular a method is given for effectively calculating the contribution of the discontinuity and/or poles of the partial wave amplitude which occur in the negative E plane. The method is successfully tested in three cases: (i) the analytically solvable exponential potential, (ii) the Hartree potential, and (iii) the S-wave exchange approximation for electron-hydrogen scattering.

Notes: Abstract Ionization of 2- and 3-nitroanilines was studied in HCl-DMF-1,1,2,2-tetrachloro-ethane (TCE) solutions at 25 °C. The ionization capability of the medium and basicity constants pK i of indicators change depending on the ratio of the components. The numerical values of pK i are found to depend on the analytical composition of the DMF-TCE solvent. The solvent effect on pK i is associated with a change in the solvation of the nonionized form of the indicators.
