Notes: Abstract  The potential of ultrasonic standing waves for trapping suspended particles was utilized successfully for differential size fractionation of plant somatic embryos. In a flow-through resonator equipped with a 200-kHz piezoceramic transducer, embryos of different sizes corresponding to different developmental stages could be retained by varying the electric power input and flow speed. The system was initially established for carrot (Daucus carota) somatic embryos and subsequently adapted for the larger-sized embryos of the woody species cork oak (Quercus suber), grapevine (Vitis Berlandieri × rupestris) and cherry (Prunus incisa × serrula). Separation performance was confirmed by analysing the different fractions for the expression of homeobox genes which are differentially expressed during embryogenesis. No inhibitory effects of embryos on short- and long-term development could be observed.

Notes: Abstract. The contribution of the QCD pomeron to the process $AA \rightarrow AA J/\Psi J/\Psi $ is discussed. We focus on the photon-photon collision, with the quasi-real photon coming from the Weizsäcker-Williams spectrum of the nuclei. We calculate the cross section for this process considering the solution of the LLA BFKL equation at zero momentum transfer using a small t approximation for the differential cross section of the subprocess. Furthermore, the impa ct of non-leading corrections to the BFKL equation is also analyzed. In both cases the cross section is found to increase with the energy, predicting considerable values for the LHC energies. Moreover, we compare our results with the Born two-gluon approximation, which is energy independent at the photon level. Our results indicate that the experimental analyses of this process can be useful to discriminate the QCD dynamics at high energies.

Notes: Abstract The skeletal isomerization of 1‐butene was performed over a series of silicoaluminophosphate molecular sieves with AEL structure (SAPO‐11). The results were compared with those obtained over an aluminophosphate molecular sieve (AlPO4‐11). The three SAPO‐11 samples, with different acidic properties, were synthesized by either varying the chemical composition of the synthesis gel or by varying the preparation time of the aforementioned gel. The catalytic results indicate that irrespective of how the acidity of the SAPO‐11 samples is changed (viz., independently of the method elected to modify the acidic properties of the samples), a close parallelism between the selectivity towards the skeletal isomerization and the number of (moderate + strong) Brønsted acid sites (sites retaining pyridine above 623 K) was observed for the SAPO‐11 solids. These results, definitively, indicate the participation of these acid sites in the skeletal isomerization process.

Notes: Abstract. The longitudinal structure function in deep-inelastic scattering is one of the observables from which the gluon distribution can be unfolded. Consequently, this observable can be used to constrain the QCD dynamics at small x. In this work we compare the predictions of distinct QCD models with the recent experimental results for F L(x,Q 2) at small x and low Q 2 obtained by the H1 Collaboration. We focus mainly on the color dipole approach, selecting those models which include saturation effects. Such models are suitable at this kinematical region and also resum a wide class of higher-twist contributions to the observables. Therefore, we investigate the influence of these corrections to F L in the present region of interest.

Notes: Abstract. We calculate the nuclear cross section for vector meson exclusive photoproduction within the QCD color dipole picture and in the Regge approach. For the former approach, we have considered the phenomenological saturation model, whereas for the latter we use a model based on the dipole pomeron framework. Theoretical estimates for scattering on both light and heavy nuclei are given over a large range of energy.

Notes: Abstract The effect of uni- and biaxial orientation in the morphology of polypropylene films has been investigated by thermal, dynamic-mechanical, X-ray pole figure and diffraction patterns. In uniaxial oriented films the level of damping is roughly three times higher in the MD direction than it is in the TD direction. The stretching always produces crystals of the α form independently of the starting type. Fast DSC scans show two melting peaks indicative of two crystalline species. The Fujiyama et al. model for the crystalline structure can be also applied to the uniaxially stretched films. Upon biaxially orienting, the folded lamellae crystals (kebabs) are the ones to support all the force applied, and when their maximum level of stress slippage is reached they deform following the Peterlin's model, forming a new shish structure. These new shishes are aligned to the TD direction and by linking the original shishes in the MD direction produce a planar orthogonal net of linked shish structures. The space among the shishes is filled with small and imperfect folded lamellae with c-axis in the film plane and preferentially oriented in the MD and TD directions, keeping constant crystallinity density throughout.

Notes: Abstract The thermal decomposition kinetics of the solid complexes Cd(S2 CNR2 )2 , where R =C2 H5 , n -C3 H7 , n -C4 H9 or iso -C4 H9 , was studied by using isothermal and non-isothermal thermogravimetry. The superimposed TG/DTG/DSC curves revealed that thermal decomposition reactions occur in the liquid phase. The kinetic model that best fitted the experimental isothermal TG data was the one-dimensional phase-boundary reaction-controlled process R1 . The thermal analysis data suggested the thermal stability sequence Cd(S2 CNBun 2 )2 〉Cd(S2 CNPrn 2 )2 〉Cd(S2 CNBui 2 )2 〉Cd(S2 CNEt2 )2 , which accords with the sequence of stability of the apparent activation energies.

Notes: Abstract Fourteen goat populations were studied regarding their genetic relationship and structure. Parameters of genetic diversity (HT, HS and GST) and F statistic (FIS, FIT and FST) were estimated. Undefined breed populations presented high homogeneity, as did imported breed populations. Naturalized breed populations showed high differentiation. The genetic distances separating these 14 goat populations were calculated from gene frequency data for eight blood genetic markers (esterase D, phosphoglucomutase 1, carbonic anhydrase II, peptidase B, amylase, haemoglobin, transferrin, and protein X). Working with the genetic distance matrix of Nei corrected for small samples (DA), we constructed a dendrogram using the unweighted pair group method with arithmetic mean. DA values ranged from 0.0027 to 0.1518. The dendrogram divided the populations into two groups, one consisting of three populations of naturalized breeds, and another including the other populations (imported breeds, undefined breeds and some other naturalized breeds).
