Notes: Abstract The polymerization process in a solution was examined by SAXS and cryo-TEM in the case of chemical polymerization of pyrrole in aqueous solution using sodium cellulose sulfonate (SCS) and FeCl3 as oxidizing agents. Observations with SAXS and cryo-TEM indicated the formation of micelle of SCS in SCS + water system. By adding FeCl3 in the solution, large spherical aggregates were formed as revealed by cryo-TEM, which is considered to be a precursor for the polymer spherical particles produced with a constant diameter.

Notes: Abstract. Nuclear interaction and charge-changing cross sections were measured for 950 ⋅A MeV 20N, 20O, 20F, 20Ne, 20Na and 20Mg beams incident on a carbon target. The experimental results are compared to other data, in particular to those obtained for stable nuclei. Root mean square nuclear matter radii and upper limits of root mean square proton radii are derived from the experimental data. Evidence is presented for the existence of a neutron skin in 20N.

Notes: Abstract The longitudinal momentum distribution of7Be was measured after the break-up reaction of8B in C, Al, and Pb targets at 1471 A·MeV. We observed a narrow distribution with a FWHM of (81±6) MeV/c in all targets. The experimental results indicate an extended spatial distribution of the loosely bound proton in8B, and agree with QRPA calculations.

Notes: Abstract. The feasibility of three-dimensional (3-D) photonic crystals made using textile technology was investigated. Three different textures consisting of the cotton-yarn and TiO2 dispersed resin; a crossed linear-yarn laminated fabric, a multi layered woven fabric, and a 3-D woven fabric, were fabricated. The microwave attenuation of the transmission amplitude through these photonic crystals was measured. The straight cotton-yarn as well as the wavy cotton-yarn/TiO2 dispersed resin photonic crystals exhibited band gaps in the 6 to 15 GHz range. Thus, we could fabricate successfully 3-D photonic crystals using textile technology.

Notes: Abstract. A modular symbol is the fundamental class of a totally geodesic submanifold $ \Gamma'\backslash G'/K' $ embedded in a locally Riemannian symmetric space $ \Gamma \backslash G / K $ , which is defined by a subsymmetric space $ G'/ K' \hookrightarrow G / K $ . In this paper, we consider the modular symbol defined by a semisimple symmetric pair (G,G'), and prove a vanishing theorem with respect to the $ \pi $ -component $ (\pi \in \widehat {G}) $ in the Matsushima-Murakami formula based on the discretely decomposable theorem of the restriction $ \pi |_{G'} $ . In particular, we determine explicitly the middle Hodge components of certain totally real modular symbols on the locally Hermitian symmetric spaces of type IV.

Notes: Abstract.  A femtosecond frequency-domain interferometer is applied to metal-free and vanadyl phthalocyanine (H2Pc and VOPc) thin films to measure time-resolved difference phase and transmission spectra simultaneously. For both samples, the phase-change dynamics is different from the transmission-change dynamics at 620 nm, reflecting that the phthalocyanines (Pc) cannot be modeled with a two-level system but by a multi-level or inhomogeneously broadened system, in which each level pair exhibits different relaxation dynamics. Because of this dynamical difference, a phase-change measurement is required to correct distortion of the transient spectra due to induced phase modulation of probe pulses. Near zero time delay, the phase and transmission changes show different growth behavior. This behavior is explained by antisymmetric amplitude and phase gratings which are produced by coherent coupling between frequency-chirped pump and probe pulses.

Notes: Abstract. In this study, the pulsed laser ablation of RuO2 and SrRuO3 (SRO) is investigated by observing the fluorescence from excited atoms in the plume by using a framing streak camera. Vaporization, phase explosion and boiling are suggested to play the main roles in the processes for the interaction between the laser beam and target. Collisions and adiabatic expansion are also suggested before particles move forward with shifted Maxwellian spatial distribution. In O2 pressure, numerous collisions between fast and slow atoms occur and result in the exchange of speeds. The structural and electrical (conductivity and work-function) properties of RuO2 and SRO thin films are measured. Epitaxial SRO growth was obtained at growth temperatures down to 350 °C. Ferroelectric and high- dielectric thin-film capacitors with RuO2 or SRO thin film electrode are also studied.
