Description: Radiocarbon 14C Dating of hydrothermal siliceous sinter deposits from El Tatio Geyser field in the Chilean Altiplano. All samples were analyzed at the Keck-Carbon Cycle accelerator mass spectrometry laboratory (KCCAMS) at the University of California, Irvine. Radiocarbon concentrations are given as fractions of the Modern standard, D14C, and conventional radiocarbon age, following the conventions of Stuiver and Polach (Radiocarbon, v. 19, p.355, 1977). Sample preparation backgrounds have been subtracted, based on measurements of 14C-free wood. All results have been corrected for isotopic fractionation according to the conventions of Stuiver and Polach (1977), with d13C values measured on prepared graphite using the AMS spectrometer. These can differ from d13C of the original material, if fractionation occurred during sample graphitization or the AMS measurement.

Description: The Azores archipelago is a group of nine oceanic volcanic islands located in the mid-North Atlantic, roughly 1500 km from Europe and 1900 km from America. Lake Caldeirão is situated in the central caldeira of Corvo Island at 399 m altitude. A coring campaign was conducted in June 2017 using a 60mm diameter UWITEC gravity corer from UWITEC floating platform retrieving a core (4.60 m long) located in the deepest part of the lake. The core was dated using ¹⁴C and produced a multi-proxy dataset of geochemical and biological analyses that we used to uncover paleoenvironmental changes on Lake Caldeirão in the last 1500 years

Description: The Azores archipelago is a group of nine oceanic volcanic islands located in the mid-North Atlantic, roughly 1500 km from Europe and 1900 km from America. Lake Funda is situated in the southern sector of the central plateau of Flores Island at 351 m altitude and occupies the bottom of a small maar-explosion crater with 875 m in length and 625 m width, with a total area of 0.37 km2 where several water lines converge. A coring campaign was conducted in June 2017 using a 60mm diameter UWITEC gravity corer from UWITEC floating platform retrieving a core (9.97 m long) located in the deepest part of the lake. The core was dated using ¹⁴C and produced a multi-proxy dataset of geochemical and biological analyses that we used to uncover paleoenvironmental changes on Lake Azul in the last 1300 years.,

Description: The Azores archipelago is a group of nine oceanic volcanic islands located in the mid-North Atlantic, roughly 1500 km from Europe and 1900 km from America. In 2018, a sediment core was recovered from Lake Ginjal on Terceira island. A 3.5 m long sediment core was taken using a Russian chamber corer, 0.5 m long, with 5 cm diameter. Lake Ginjal occupies the bottom of a small crater at 390 m above sea level located in the plains of Achada, the oldest volcanic crater of Terceira island. Its maximum length and width are 120 m and 70 m, respectively, and its maximum water depth is 1 m. The core was dated using ¹⁴C and produced a multi-proxy dataset of geochemical and biological analyses that we used to uncover paleoenvironmental changes on Lake Azul in the last 550 years.

Description: This data is part of the BMBF project CUSCO (Coastal Upwelling Systems in a Changing Ocean). Here we report the dissolved organic carbon and total dissolved nitrogen concentrations during a 35-day experiment, where we enclosed natural plankton communities in in-situ mesocosms off Peru. The experiment investigated the interactive effects of light and upwelling on the Humboldt upwelling ecosystem by mimicking a gradient of upwelling intensities (0%, 15%, 30%, 45% and 60%) under summer-time high light and winter-time low light. Integrated seawater samples from a depth between 0 and 10m were collected using a 5L Integrating Water sampler (IWS; Hydro-Bios, Kiel). Sub-samples (60 mL) were syringe filtered through two pre-combusted glass fiber filters (5 h, 450 °C). To reduce clogging, one 3.1 µm GMF filter was placed on top of a 0.7 µm GFF filter. The filtrate was acidified to pH 2 with 25% HCl before storing at -20°C until analysis. The DOC and TDN concentrations were measured using a TOC-VCPH analyser (Shimadzu). Instrument accuracy was evaluated by comparison against a deep Atlantic seawater reference (Consensus Reference Material project: D. Hansell, University of Miami, USA).
