Notes: Conclusions It has been established that the traditional parameters of the preparation of cast slips made from stabilized ZrO2 are unsuitable for the experimental composition ZrO2+25% CaO since the time required for washing of the hammered-on iron is sharply increased. The behavior of the hammered briquette of the experimental composition depends on the aggregation of fine particles having a well-developed surface and its dissolution in solutions of HCl, leading to the formation of a liquid solvated shell around a particle and thus preventing the deposition of the suspensions and the removal of iron chloride. Shortening the duration of the milling of the material from 21 to 4 h helps to speed up the deposition of the suspensions as a result of the coarser particle aggregates and the better removal of the iron chloride. In this case the working properties of the articles are not impaired.

Notes: Conclusions Of the experimental carbon-containing materials as candidates for use in the refractory composite MgO-C of periclase products, the optimum is natural crystalline graphite from the Zaval'evsk Deposits. The nature and structural features of the carbon are the most important indicative characteristics. Of the experimental forms of binder, the best antioxidant of carbon is sodium polyphosphate. The interaction between P2O5 and catalytic impurities of the graphite led to their deactivation and to a lowering of the rate of carbon oxidation.

Notes: Summary Infra-red dichroism has been used to measure the orientation of the different sequences of isotopically labelled block copolymers. We have determined the orientation from dichroic ratios of two bands of deuterated polystyrene, and compared in block copolymers the orientation of the central part of the chain with that of the ends. The relaxation of the ends is more rapid, than that of the center, which exhibits a “plateau”.

Notes: Summary New diamines containing alkaneoxy linkages have been prepared by hydrolysis of the corresponding diamides which were obtained by reaction of p-hydroxyacetanilide with different dibromo alkanes. These diamines were copolymerized with glyoxal to yield insoluble copolymers in solvents such as DMSO, CH3OH, CH3COCH3, CHCl3. The diamides and diamines were characterized by IR, 1H NMR spectroscopy and elemental analyses and the copolymers were characterized by IR spectroscopy and elemental analyses.

Notes: Summary Chelating polymers were synthesized by polymer analogous reaction of polyethyleneimine with chelating agents: 2-hydroxy-4[2-chloroethanoyl]benzophenone, butanoic-4-oxo-4-(2′-hydroxy-5′-methyl-phenyl)acid and 4,4-′o-o-succinoyl-bis-resorcylaldehyde. The chelating agents were characterized by IR, 1H NMR and 13C NMR spectroscopy. The polychelates are insoluble in water and common organic solvents and they were characterized by IR spectroscopy. These polymers were contacted with an aqueous solution of copper(II), nickel(II) and cobalt(II).

Notes: Abstract We report the first experimental measurement of fringe-angle applied electric field scaling of space charge growth and of crystallographic orientation effects in the initial development of the diffraction efficiency of thick holograms produced by the photorefractive effect in a bismuth silicon oxide (BSO) crystal. Diffraction efficiencies of holograms made by interfering two plane waves on the [¯110] face are measured as a function of the angle between the fringe pattern and the applied electric field. As the crystal is rotated relative to the interference fringes, the applied field may be scaled to yield identical space charge growth. Polarization-dependent diffraction measurements agree with the theory of a birefringent grating when optical activity is included as a separate, serial effect. Both the rotation-scaled applied electric fields and the crystallographic variations in the birefringent diffraction grating are consistent with charge transport processes in which the initial space charge fields are perpendicular to the interference fringes over growth times extending nearly into the steady state regime.

Notes: Abstract The presence of dislocations in high-purity germanium influences the resolution of radiation detectors made from it. The four dislocation types found with electron microscopy are studied by DLTS to understand their influence on trapping in a γ-ray detector. Only three DLTS bands were found in commercially produced material. Statistical correlation with the detector resolution reported by various detector manufacturers finally yielded useful specifications with respect to the crystallographic perfection to be met in detector grade HP-Ge. The specification limits are discussed in view of the DLTS data.

Notes: Abstract p-Type Ge is investigated as a photon-drag detector for high-power pulsed CO2 laser, using 3-samples of different dimensions and resistivities. Nonlinear behaviour of the photon-drag effect is observed. This phenomena could be accounted for by taking into consideration the decrease of absorption and the increase of resistivity instantaneously at the moment of interaction, rather than the effect of multireflection. The observed saturation at intensities higher than 30 MW/cm2 could be due to multireflection since its role increases at high intensities. Using the quantum mechanical model with the above considerations it was possible to obtain good agreement to the measured results.
