Notes: Mixed-valence copper(II/III) oxide solid solutions Sr2-xNaxCuO3 (0 ≤ x ≤ 1) have been prepared by solid-state reactions in oxygen atmosphere. All solid solutions exhibit the structure of Sr2CuO3 (S.G. Immm). Electrical conductivity and thermoelectric power measurements show a semiconducting behavior in the whole composition range. The electronic structure of Sr2CuO3 is compared with that of La2CuO4 on the basis of an iono-covalent model. Interpretation of transport properties suggests the formation of small polarons. Magnetic susceptibility and EPR measurements show that the antiferromagnetic ordering of Sr2CuO3 tends to vanish as x increases, however magnetic interactions are still strong for a concentration of Cu2+ ions corresponding to x = 0.8.

Notes: The crystal structures of the ordinary pressure forms of indium digermanate In2Ge2O7 and disilicate In2Si2O7 have been studied from X-ray powder diffraction data by Rietveld refinement. They are closely related to that of the thortveitite which crystallizes in the monoclinic system with the space group C2/m and Z = 2. They show luminescence properties below 160 K and 200 K respectively. The luminescence is discussed in terms of crystal structure and compared to that of some other luminescent indium oxides.

Notes: Relaxation rates for O2(1Σg+) by nonradiative pathways have been determined using the fast-flow technique. O2(1Σg+) is formed from O2(1Δg) by an energy pooling process. O2(1Δg) is generated by passing purified oxygen through a microwave discharge. Oxygen atoms are removed by distilling mercury vapor through the discharge zone. It has been observed that the wall loss rate for O2(1Σg+) decreases with increasing pressure of oxygen and thus appears to be diffusion controlled. Quenching rate constants for O2, N2, and He have been determined and found to be (1.5 ± 0.1) × 104, (1.0 ± 0.05) × 106 and (1.2 ± 0.1) × 105 l./mol·sec, respectively.

Description / Table of Contents: Quantitative „Softness“ Parameter und ihre Anwendung in der Strukturaufklärung von Bimetalltetracyanat-Komplexen〉2M(NCS)2M′(SCN)2〈 und [Ml6][M′(SCN)4], (M = COII und NiII; M′ = ZnII, CdII und HgII, L = Anilin, p-Toluidin, Pyridin, Nicotinamid, 2,2′-Bipyridin und 4-Aminopyridin) wurden dargestellt und charackterisiert.
Notes: 〉2M(NCS)2M′(SCN)2〈 and [ML6][M′(SCN)4], (M = Co(II) and Ni(II), M′ = Zn(II), Cd(II) and Hg(II) and L = aniline(ani), p-toluidine(tol), pyridine(py), nicotinamide(nia), 2,2′-bipyridine(bipy) and 4-aminopyridine (apy)) have been prepared and characterized. Their structure have been proposed on the basis of molar conductance, magnetic moment, group theoretical calculations, ligand field parameters, infrared and electronic spectral studies. Description / Table of Contents: Crystal Structure of CuWO3F2The crystal structure of the copper(II) oxyfluoridetungstate CuWO3F2 has been determined from single crystal X-ray data. The symmetry is monoclinic (space group P21/m) with lattice parameters a = 5.223(1) Å, b = 9.599(4) Å, c = 3.670(1) Å, β = 106.26(1)° (Z = 2). The structure has been fixed by the heavy atom method and refined by least square calculations down to a R factor of 0.019. Oxygen-fluorine ordering has been determined on the network built up by corner sharing octahedra constituting infinite chains, by several methods: Raman spectroscopy, electrostatic energy calculations, and bond valence determinations. The structural formulation of the octahedra is (WO2F2O2/2)2-.

Notes: A laser flash photolysis-long path absorption technique has been employed to study the kinetics of the reaction products as a function of temperature (248-346 K), pressure (16-800 torr), and buffer gas identity (N2, CF4). The reaction is found to be in the falloff regime between third and second-order over the entire range of conditions investigated. This is the first study where temperature-dependent measurements of k1(P, T) have been reported at pressures greater than 12 torr; hence, our results help constrain choices of k1(P, T) for use in models of lower stratospheric BrOx chemistry. Approximate falloff parameters in a convenient form for atmospheric modeling are derived. © 1993 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.

Notes: This article describes the first direct determination of the rate coefficient for the self-reaction between two NO3 radicals. A laser photolysis technique was used to generate NO3, and time-resolved decays of NO3 were followed after stopping the photolysis. The products of the reaction are inferred to be NO2 and O2. The derived rate coefficient at room temperature for the self-reaction of (2.3 ± 0.8) ×10-16 cm3 molecule-1s-1 is in excellent agreement with the only other data, which were obtained in an indirect study. Consideration is given to the magnitude and influence of secondary chemistry and to the participation of FO in the chemistry of the NO3 buildup phase. The studies were conducted over a pressure range of 8 to 100 torr in helium. No clear pressure dependence was observed, and some tentative inferences are drawn both from this result and from the absolute magnitude of the rate coefficient about the mechanism of the reaction. There is apparently no role for the reaction in the chemistry of the atmosphere. © 1993 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
