The lattice dynamics and the temperature variation of the volume Grüneisen function and bulk modulus of erbium have been calculated with the nearest-neighbour central-interaction model of Srinivasan & Ramji Rao [Inelastic Scattering of Neutrons, IAEA, Vienna, (1965), 1, 325-342]. The even moments of the frequency distribution function of erbium have also been calculated. The agreement between the calculated in and that obtained from thermal data is good. The calculated Bs values agree with those obtained from the measured elastic constants of Fisher & Dever [Trans. Metall. Soc. A IME, (1967), 239, 48-57] at various temperatures up to 298 K, to within 2%.
