Notes: Warming of exponentially growing T. pyriformis to 34°C results in severe inhibition of nucleotide pool formation. The utilization of the pool for stable RNA synthesis is poorly affected at the high temperature. It thus appears that the synthesis and processing of ribosomal RNA precursors are not primarily impaired at 34°C.

Notes: The reaction of α-bromoimmonium bromides 4 with potassium cyanide in dimethylformamide gave rise to β-bromo-α-(dialkylamino)nitriles 5, which were dehydrobrominated in various basesolvent systems to afford (E)- and (Z)-α-cyanoenamines 2. An adaption of a previously published preparation of α-cyanoenamines starting from aldehydes via enamines led to an improved, efficient and fast synthesis of the title compounds.

Notes: Tertiary α-bromoalkyl aryl ketones 1 were converted into 2-alkoxy-2-aryloxiranes 4 exclusively by reaction with excess potassium carbonate in the corresponding dry alcohol. Silver carbonate in a dry alcohol with these α-bromo ketones yielded competitively formation of 2-alkoxyoxiranes and semi-benzilic Favorskii rearrangement (→5), while silver hexafluoroantimonate in the same medium afforded the latter rearrangement reaction exclusively.

Notes: Cellulase production by strains of Myrothecium verrucaria, Stachybotrys atra and Trichoderma viride was examined. Myrothecium verrucaria was found to give the greatest yields. A variety of media were examined as potential substrates for the industrial production of cellulase. The salts content of the medium was varied and was found to affect cellulase production. Glucose, carboxymethylcellulose (CMC), filter paper and three industrial wastes were examined as possible cellulase inducers. Filter paper was found to be the most effective, followed by sugar cane bagasse and CMC.

Description / Table of Contents: Aromatische Polyamide mit Imidseitengruppen wurden aus 4,4′-Diaminodiphenylether und Imid-Disäurechloriden durch Lösungspolykondensation hergestellt.
Notes: Aromatic polyamides with imide pendent groups were prepared from 4,4′-diaminodiphenylether and imide-diacid chlorides by solution polycondensation. Imidediacid chlorides used included the diacid chlorides of 5-maleimidoisophthalic, 5-dichloromaleimidoisophthalic, 5-tetrahydrophthalimidoisophthalic, 5-chlorendimidoisophthalic, 5-nadimidoisophthalic, 5-methylnadimidoisophthalic and 5-phthalimidoisophthalic acid. The pure aromatic polyamide from 4,4′-diaminodiphenylether and isophthaloyl chloride was also prepared for comparative reasons.Polyamide-imides are soluble in polar organic solvents and show good thermal resistance. They are film-forming and the films have good mechanical properties. Those polyamide-imides which contain unsaturated carbon-carbon bonds may be crosslinked by heating to 220°C, giving rise to insoluble materials with improved mechanical resistance.

Notes: Bifunctional arylcyanoacetic esters were oxidatively coupled to high molecular weight, colorless, amorphous polymers, soluble in common organic solvents. Brittle films were obtained by casting or compression molding. Thermal stability of the polymers is poor due to the weak C—C bond formed by oxidative coupling. Radical dissociation-recombination of this bond (evidenced by ESR) results in meso-dl equilibration, lowering the Tg of the polymers.

Notes: 13C NMR (CMR) spectra of a number of di- and trisubstituted ethylenes have been measured. Very consistent values are found for the differential shieldings of allylic carbons in a number of linear, (Z)- and (E)-disubstituted ethylenes. The discrepancies between the several structural elements are explained tentatively by assuming different rotational preferences in the (Z)-isomers, the (E)-isomers, or both. The results obtained for some branched olefins are qualitatively in agreement with conclusions reached in previous 1H NMR (PMR) investigations, with the possible exception of 2,5-diMe-3-hexene.Differential shieldings in trisubstituted ethylenes are larger than in disubstituted ethylenes, probably as a consequence of steric interaction between geminal substituents. It is confirmed, that API's recent relabelling of the isomers of 3-Me-2-hexene was justified. Furthermore, the (E)-configuration is assigned to the high-boiling isomer of 3,4,4-triMe-2-pentene. On the other hand, the high-boiling isomer of 3-Et-4-Me-2-pentene is shown to be the (Z)-isomer. For the isomeric pair of geraniol and nerol, the (E)-configuration is assigned to the former and the (Z)-configuration to the latter, in agreement with our recent PMR investigations.

Notes: The 13C NMR spectra of a series of nine taxane derivatives are reported. A detailed analysis of the assignments is presented. Observed long-range substituent effects are explained on the basis of the proximity of rings A and C in this type of molecules.
