Description / Table of Contents:
Notes:
Summary Alkali salt solutions of carbonate, hydrogencarbonate, and tetraborate may be analyzed for their anionic components in a 70% methanolic solution titrimetrically using potentiometric indication with a combined glass electrode. An acidimetric titration in the presence of mannitol and, subsequently, an alkalimetric titration are the only two procedures required. The accuracy of this method is about ± 0.5 % rel. The reaction of tetraborate with mannitol, which is different in carbonate-alkaline and weakly acidic solutions, is described in detail.
