Description / Table of Contents:
Catalyst aging, in particular of the system Al(C2H5)2Cl/TiCl3 is achieved in presence of small amounts of monomeric α-olefins which partly polymerize during this period. At the beginning the subsequent main polymerization of ethylene or propylene shows pronounced changes of the rate of polymerization, i.e., by prepolymerizing ethylene the following main polymerization is decreased, with propylene and higher α-olefins (butene-1, hexene-1) as premonomers, the main polymerization is increased. The effects vanish with propylene after longer polymerization periods. Formation of block copolymers of pre- and main polymerization is established.Various aspects to explain the positive and negative activity changes are discussed on the basis of concepts previously developed.
Notes:
