Description / Table of Contents: Abstract
Notes: Abstract Isomerization of n-hexane over Pt/NH4NaY follows the reaction scheme k1, k2, kc linearly increase with increasing ammonia exchange degree in the zeolite and no significant changes in selectivity occur. During activation Al is partially removed from the lattice framework with the formation of HAlNaY.

Notes: Summary Five free-ranging white-footed mice, peromyscus leucopus, known to inhabit man-made nest boxes were captured during winter, surgically-implanted with temperature-sensitive radiotelemeters, and released at the site of capture. The body temperatures of mice which voluntarily inhabited nest boxes were monitored from a remote location with an AM receiver on 17 days. All five mice were able to maintain stable euthermic body temperatures (approximately 35–37°C during the day; 37–39°C at night) during exposure to subfreezing ambient temperatures. Two body temperature profiles of daily torpor were obtained from one animal. On both occasions, the mouse entered torpor approximately 2 hours before sunrise, maintained a minimum body temperature of 18°C, and was fully aroused by 1500h. The influence of thermoregulation (during euthermia and torpor) on energy expenditure and survival in free-ranging mice is discussed.

Description / Table of Contents: Preparation and Properties of Aluminium Hydroxide. I. Boehmite from Aluminium Nitrate and AmmoniaThe physical-chemical properties of mainly boehmite containing aluminium hydroxide are studied which were made by continuous precipitation from aluminium nitrate solution with ammonia liquor using technical raw materials and test conditions being very similar to those applied in production. The influence of the precipitation conditions (pH value, temperature, concentration and residence time in the precipitation solution) on the composition, structure and texture of the precipitation products is investigated and information about their effect on the filtration behaviour are given. In the case of a continuous precipitation it is possible to obtain phase-pure boehmite being relatively well crystallised. The crystallinity and dispersity of the precipitated hydroxide determine their filterability and the cavity structure.

Description / Table of Contents: Studies on Oxide Catalysts. XXX. Characterization of the Me2+ Localization in Zeolites CaNaY, MgNaY, and CaMgNaYData for exchange of the cations Ca2+, Mg2+, as well as Ca2+ and Mg2+ into the zeolite NaY have been determined. From this it was concluded on the localization of Me2+ cations in hydrated samples. The adsorption of ammonia in the temperature region of 420 to 670 K, the determination of the heats of immersion in water and nitromethane and the Me2+ —CO-interaction indicated by IR spectroscopy yielded informations on the localization of cations in dehydrated samples. The results show that cations Ca2+ more selectively than cations Mg2+ occupy positions in the small cages. In the case of the competitive cation exchange this fact causes a site directed distribution of cations in zeolite cages.

Description / Table of Contents: Studies on Oxide Catalysts. XXXV. Redoxbehaviour of Nickel in Zeolite NiNaY. 2. Investigation on the Dispersion of Ni- und Ni/NiO-Species in Reduced and Reoxidized NiNaY SamplesOxygen chemisorption and electronmicroscopic measurements (ultramicrotome technique) correspondingly show a decrease of the metal dispersion with increasing reduction temperature (470-870 K) and exchange degree (10, 29, 54 equ.-% resp.). Contrary to this results electronmicroscopic measurements with replica technique don't reflect such a dependence. Increase of particle size after reoxidation (470 K) and reduction at 470 to 870 K (regeneration) of the NiNaY samples are attributed on the one hand to the aggregation of oxidic particles and on the other hand to metal sintering by the subsequent reduction step. A decrease of dispersion after a reoxidation process at 670 K is caused by formation and relocalisation of isolated nickel ions.

Description / Table of Contents: Influence of oxygen additions during gas nitriding on the structure of the nitrided layersThe influence of controlled oxygen additions during gas nitriding of steels on the structure and built-up of the nitrided layers as well as on the nitriding reactions was investigated with metallurgical methods and Mössbauer spectroscopy. The results show that oxygen additions below the oxidising threshold slightly improve the nitriding behaviour of unalloyed steels. Furthermore, it is shown that for alloyed steel, which are tending to passivation starting form chromium concentrations of 3%, the nitriding can be considerably improved by oxygen additions. The passivation layers present for these steels are destroyed by external oxidation during the oxinitriding process. This external oxidation and the internal nitriding occurred parallel in the early stages of the oxinitriding.
