Amidation of Squaric AcidReaction of squaric acid with aniline furnishes, in addition to the 1,3-diamide (1,3-dianilino-cyclobutendiylium-2,4-diolate) as the major product, the corresponding 1,2-isomer (1,2-dianilinocyclobuten-3,4-dione) in yields up to 18%. This result contrasts with literature data describing the exclusive formation of the 1,3-diamide in this reaction.

Die Reaktion von Quadratsäure mit Anilin liefert neben dem als Hauptprodukt anfallenden 1,3-Diamid (1,3-Dianilinocyclobutendiylium-2,4-diolat) das entsprechende 1,2-Isomere (1,2-Dianilinocyclobuten-3,4-dion) in Ausbeuten bis zu 18%. Dieser Befund steht im Gegensatz zu Literaturangaben, denen zufolge in dieser Reaktion ausschließlich das 1,3-Diamid gebildet wird.
