    Notizen: A dynamic method for free and total cholesterol assay based on the oxidation of cholesterol by cholesterol oxidase, and conversion of cholesteryl oleate to cholesterol by cholesterol esterase is discussed in this article. The reaction conditions for total cholesterol assay were a temperature of 310 K and pH of 7.4. For conversion of cholesteryl oleate to cholesterol, the samples were incubated with 0.6 unit/mL of cholesterol esterase and 0.02 g/mL of taurocholate. The determination of initial reaction rates in the oxidation of free cholesterol, which is directly related to the cholesterol concentration, was found to be rapid, reliable, and inexpensive. © 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.     Notizen: When a mechanism is used to determine possible deactivation kinetics, a certain consistency with the kinetics of the main reaction is found. This result is examined in the light of experimental evidence obtained with bovine liver and Aspergillus catalases.

    Notizen: The results of experiments in a fixed-bed reactor and a CSTR containing urease immobilized on a nonporous support and conducted in the absence of diffusional limitations are reported. Kinetic parameters were established by separate batch experiments. The key observation was that the product ammonia attacked the free form of the enzyme and thereby illustrates the importance of mechanism in determining deactivation kinetics.

    Notizen: PLASSEX is a forward-chaining rule-based expert system for plastic selection written in CParaOPS5. This system prompts the user for desired properties, and lists all plastics suitable for a particular application. At present, PLASSEX has 393 plastics in the data base and considers up to 39 polymer properties in order to select the right plastic. More properties can be added to the system with some understanding of the code. This system also provides the user with a help facility. PLASSEX has a number of other features; for instance it gives the user an opportunity to modify any property in case the system fails to come up with a suitable plastic the first time. © 1993 by John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
