Notes: [Auszug] Suzuki and Ito1 have reported the effects of bromine on the ultra-violet absorption spectra of some purines, pyrimidines and nucleosides. There was almost complete elimination of the characteristic maxima in the absorption in the region 245-280 m[z, except for adenosine, which was practically ...

Notes: [Auszug] Mice were painted with methylcholanthrene (0.3 per cent in acetone) once a week for twelve weeks on the skin of the right scapular region (referred to as the treated area?). They were then left untreated for two weeks, the few animals with tumours discarded, and the remainder subjected to one of ...

Notes: [Auszug] Preliminary tests using the ox liver fraction, D-glucose, D-mannose, L-rhamnose and D-ribose were carried out according to the directions of Tsuda et al. In the absence of definite specifications in the communication, the sugars were dissolved in phosphate buffered saline (without calcium or ...

Notes: [Auszug] RECENTLY, Alderson1 ascribed a special role to adenylic acid as the mediator of the mutagenic action of formaldehyde on Drosophila larvae, the main postulated agent being an 'adenylate dimer' produced by the interaction of formaldehyde with the amino-group of this purine derivative in the ...

Notes: [Auszug] Female mice of the Bonser IF strain were treated with 0*5 per cent 9 : 10-dimethyl-l : 2-benzanthracene in olive oil by the technique previously described1. After a small pilot series to determine dosage, the first batch consisted of thirty animals, of which eight other mice survived when the ...

Notes: [Auszug] The special features of this fraction, distinguishing it from the other plasma proteins, are its non-coagulability by heat, its great solubility in water and ammonium sulphate solution, and its solubility in sulphosalicylic and perchloric acids. Each of these characteristics has given rise to ...

Notes: [Auszug] A DETAILED chemical analysis of the amino-acid composition of salmine (from a commercial source) was presented by Block and Boiling1, who used chemical and microbiological techniques. The amino-acids found were arginine, alanine, isoleucine, proline, serine and valine. ...

Notes: [Auszug] PREVIOUS investigators1–4 have described the spontaneous occurrence of hæmolymph nodes in the rat. As a rule, two nodes situated in the vicinity of the kidneys were found to be the most conspicuous representatives of these structures. Their histological features were studied in ...
