    Description: The area in north-east Siberia, adjacent to the Laptev Sea of the Arctic Ocean, inherits a complex geological setting, which is to date not fully understood. Located north to the Laptev Sea, the ultraslow spreading Gakkel Ridge is propagating into a continental rift system – the Laptev Sea Rift. This rift separates the North American plate from the Eurasian plate and presents a rare opportunity to investigate mechanisms of recent continental breakups. In general, divergent plate boundaries are accompanied by magmatic and earthquake activities. The earthquake activity at the Gakkel Ridge shows a sharp image of seismicity, confined to the rift valley extends to the continental shelf of the Laptev Sea. Though, the Laptev Sea region indicates less and more diffuse seismicity and an absence of magmatic activity. So far, the local (micro-)seismicity of the Laptev Sea region is poorly described, due to a lack of local seismological stations and data sets. In summer 2016, as part of the project SIOLA, 25 seismological stations were temporarily installed in the Lena Delta. A network of 12 seismometers were located in the Lena Delta along the active seismic Olenek Fault Zone and another 13 stations as a seismological array close to Tiksi. Over a period of nine months, these instruments continuously recorded seismic data, to investigate the geodynamic processes of the Laptev Sea Rift by analysing the local seismicity. Furthermore, new data recently collected by members of the project and expand the existing data base. We will report the progress of the project and show some data and preliminary results.

    Description: Abstract
    Description: Following a sequence of seismic events detected by the National Geographic Institute (IGN Spain), on 13.09.2021 the new volcano Cumbre Vieja initiated an eruption, located on the mid-western flank at a location just to the north of the 1949 eruption site. The eruption fed a lava flow that buried already some hundreds of houses, with a high economic estimated loss. Previous studies have shown that La Palma was the source of 3 or 4 large sector collapses associated with avalanches under see and tsunami generation. This volcanic activity is accompanied with an increased seismic activity. The GFZ contributes to the monitoring of the seismic activity by sending experts in the frame of a Hazard and Risk Team (HART). Our partner is the National Geographic Institute. Besides tiltmeters, a temporary 4 station seismic network with TrilliumCompact 20 sec posthole seismometers, D-Cube digitisers (100 sample/sec) and C-Cubes LTE communication for real-time data transmission is being deployed near the Cumbre Vieja volcano, increasing the station density of the IGN network. Data access is being restricted for some time.

    Description: Abstract
    Description: “1-month seismological experiment on Etna, Italy in 2019" is a 1-month seismological experi-ment realized near the Pizzi Deneri Observatory on Etna, Italy, by Eva Eibl and Daniel Vollmer (University of Potsdam) in collaboration with Philippe Jousset from GFZ Potsdam Germany and Gilda Currenti and Graziano Larocca from INGV-OE, Italy. From August to September 2019, we recorded the volcano-seismic events accompanying the volcanic activity using a rotational sensor and a co-located seismometer. The aim of the seismological experiment was to study LP events, VT events and tremor. We used a 3-component broadband seismometer (Nanometrics Trillium Compact 120 s) and a 3-component rotational sensor (iXblue blueSeis-3A) and stored the data on a DataCube and CommunicationCube, respectively. Sensors were installed on the same 35 * 35 * 3 cm3 granitic base plate at about 40 cm depth enclosed by backfilled pyroclastic material to avoid wind noise. The instruments recorded at 200 Hz sampling rate and were located about 2 km from the craters on Etna. The setup was powered using 3 solar panels of 140W each and three batteries of 75Ah each. We oriented the rotational sensor and seismometer using a Quadrans fiber-optical gyrocompass. The Quadrans is not affected by magnetic minerals in the ground and our sensors are hence properly aligned to geographic north. We converted the seismometer data to MSEED using Pyrocko’s Jackseis program and created a catalogs of LP events and VT events that were further investigated in Eibl et al. 2022. Waveform data are available from the GEOFON data centre, under network code ZR.

    Description: The STRATEGy network was a temporary seismic network in the NW Argentinean Andean Foreland. It run for about 15 months between June 2016 and August 2017 and consisted of 13 stations for the most parts. Each station contains a Lennartz LE3D/5s seismometer, an Omnirecs DataCube³ext digitizer (100 Hz sampling rate) with external GPS antenna and internal flash memory. Station 14A consisted of a Mark L-4C-3D short-period sensor. The power was supplied through an external batteries that were recharged during the day via a solar panel. The sensors were oriented to magnetic north. The header of the waveform files (NSLC-IDs) still remained in its prior form (network code ST) and haven’t been adapted to the FDSN given code. Station codes (double digits) were assigned from North to South. The last digit of the station code is either A (for their initial position of a station site) or B (the station has been moved during the networks operation time due to low quality recordings at the respective initial site). Each site was chosen on 3 criteria: (1) minimizing the depth to bedrock, (2) maximizing remoteness, and (3) maximizing security, preferentially located within sight of nearby settlements. However, one station (02A) was lost due to theft and many others experienced recording gaps due to animals chewing on cables, malfunctions of electrical parts and mainly flooding of the stations during the austral summer monsoon. The overall network geometry evolved partially due to accessibility of remote locations, maintaining similar interstation distances and focusing around the epicenter of the Mw 5.7 El Galpón earthquake 9 months prior to the network’s starttime. The smallest depths to bedrock were achieved by concentrating the sites around two major bedrock ranges and their piedmont, Cerro Colorado and Sierra de la Candelaria. Waveform data are available from the GEOFON data centre, under network code 2S.

    Description: Abstract
    Description: Earthquake swarms occur frequently in Vogtland/West Bohemia at the German-Czech border. The link between these earthquakes and magmatic fluids that escape at the surface has been debated and investigated. The Rohrbach/Vogtland seismic array, installed by the University of Potsdam, Germany, was a small-aperture array that monitored the major earthquake swarm in 2008 and the background seismicity between October 16, 2008 and March 18, 2009. The array consisted of 11 stations equipped with MarsLite data loggers and Lennartz Le3D-5s seismometers. Data were recorded in continuous mode at 250 Hz. Sensors were buried in the ground at 0.5 m depth. High-precision station coordinates were obtained using differential GPS measurements. The array data has been used for analyses of earthquakes and seismic structures. Waveform data is fully open.
