Notes:
Increased O2 content of the carrier gas due to connections which were not diffusion tight and long cooling time of the cryotrap due to insufficient insulation were the main drawbacks of a commercial thermodesorption unit intended for coupling to a GC/ mass selective detector. These shortcomings were overcome by redesigning the cryotrap part and testing different seals for the desorption tube. Furthermore, the modified unit can now be easily mounted on various gas chromatographys without any risk of cold spots in the transfer line. A detailed working description of the modifications is given.
