Notes: Abstract In vitro clonai multip1ication of Coleus forskahlii Briq a threatened plant, has been achieved on MS medium supplemented with Kn (2.0 mg/l) and IAA (1.0 mg/l) using nodal segments as explants, Shoots multiplied at a rate of 12 — fold every six weeks. Rooting was achieved upon transfer of shoots onto MS medium containing IAA (1.0 mg/l). The micropropagated plants were successfully established under field conditions. Forskolin content in tubers of plants obtained by micropropagation was found to be 0.1%, the same as that found in wild plants. This micropropagation procedure should be useful for conservation as well as production of this important plant

Notes: Summary The average energy gap of magnesium, calcium and strontium compounds has been calculated by using the plasma oscillation theory of solids. The calculated values are in fair agreement with the observed values and the values calculated by different workers. Our calculations are not restricted to simple binary and ternary compounds, but can also be sucessfully applied to all types of compounds.

Notes: [Auszug] It is well known that the two distinctive features of a graywacke are its texture and composition. The authors made no precise mention of the texture of the rock although, according to Pettijohn2, "it alone distinguishes graywacke from all other sandstones". The description of the composition of ...

Notes: Summary Variation ofb with depth has been studied using most likelihood method of estimatingb proposed byUtsu and it has been found thatb remains practicall constant upto a depth of 400 km, at which there is a sharp increase in the value ofb which decreases with depth. The distribution of Maximum magnitude with depth shows that the maximum magnitude decreases upto 300 km and below this level there is an increase in the maximum magnitude which again decreases with depth. The frequency of distribution ofb values is found to cluster around 0.8.

Notes: Summary The paper embodies focal mechanism solutions based onP wave data for thirteen earthquakes; nine shallow and four intermediate shocks located in northeastern India. The solutions along the Burmese and Himalayan mountains confirm the existence of thrust faulting and strike-slip faulting. A mechanism solution west of Haflong shows strike-slip faulting and another in the east shows thrust faulting. Four solutions from Tibet show normal faulting with predominant strike-slip motion.

Notes: Abstract The intratracheal administration to rats of fly ash particles (≤5 μm) collected from the electrostatic precipitator of a thermal power plant was the basis for a study on the hematology, blood chemistry, and histopathology of the lung and liver in the rats. The most characteristic effect of fly ash was a reduction in white blood cell (WBC) counts, which was dose-dependent and it persisted up to 120 days after administration of 5 mg fly ash. Dose-dependent reductions were also observed in red blood cell (RBC) counts and hemoglobin levels; reductions were also observed 30 days after administration of the specified dose. A dose-dependent increase in lymphocytes and a decrease in polymorphonuclear leucocytes and monocyte counts was apparent. These effects were reversible after 60 days. The administration of glass beads (≤5 μm) did not alter the rat blood hematology. A dose-dependent increase in the blood glucose levels, the activity of glutamate pyruvate transaminase (GPT), a decrease in the activities of glutamate oxaloacetate transaminase (GOT) and alkaline phosphatase was observed in fly ash-treated rats. Fly ash significantly increased blood glucose levels and decreased uric acid levels and the activities of GOT and acid phosphatase 15 days after administration. Glass beads did not affect the blood chemistry of the rats. No discernible effect was apparent on deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA), ribonucleic acid (RNA), and protein of the lung and liver. Histopathology of the lung revealed an inflammatory response. Fly ash-laden macrophages were present in large number in early periods but their number decreased with time. Thickening of the alveolar septa occurred. Periodic Acid Schiff's (PAS) staining of lung was positive, indicating alveolar lipoproteinosis. Fly ash particles were present in the hepatic sinusoids and central veins.

Notes: Abstract A method for digital division is described. In this method the reciprocal of the divisor is first determined approximately by a third order iterative equation. Each multiplication in this equation is then performed by the Quasi Serial Multiplier method. The reciprocal of the divisor, thus obtained is finally multiplied by the dividend, using the same method.
