The subject of this paper is the calculation of some properties of the PVC-powder resulting from the suspension polymerization. Based on an analysis of the influencing factors and experimental data a model is developed for the specific surface and the porosity of the PVC-powder. The model uses the equations of morphogenesis of the PVC-S presented recently in this journal and earlier works on the formation of subgrains. Therefore, the model considers the dependence of the product properties on the reaction kinetics, conversion, temperature, mixing and dispergators. It appears that the specific surface is only a function of the inner morphology. The prorosity also depends on the existence of a cellular structure of the grain. The equations for the specific surface correspond well with data obtained by the BET-method for different conditions; the data of the porosity (mercury high-pressure porosimeter) also agree well with the model developed. The properties of the products from large scale reactors correspond with the model, too.
Notizen:
