Description / Table of Contents:
Synthesis of 1-(Dimethylphosphino)-2-(dimethylphosphinyl)ethane, 1-(Dimethylphosphino)-2-(dimethylthiophosphinyl)ethane, and their DerivativesThe two monooxidation products of 1,2-bis(dimethylphosphino)ethane (dmpe) (1), the dmpe-monoxide Me2P(O)C2H4PMe2 (5) and dmpe-monosulfide Me2P(S)C2H4PMe2 (11), can be synthesized by partial oxidation of 1 with H2O2 and sulfur, respectively. Furthermore 5 can be produced in better yield by partial oxidation of dmpe-dihydrochloride (2) with H2O2 and following neutralization. 11 are also formed by reduction of dmpe-disulfide (10) with iron powder (red.) and 1, respectively. THF proved as a suitable extractant to isolate the pure substances 5 and 11. By reaction with oxygen or sulfur 5 and 11 form the dioxidation products 6,7 and 10, respectively. 5 and 11 react with MeI to form the appropriate phosphonium salts 8 and 12. The defined complex 13 is obtained by reaction of the bidentate ligand 11 with NiCl2. The structures and purities of all synthesized compounds are confirmed by 1H- and 31P-NMR-spectroscopic data.
Notes:
