    Notes: To obtain numerical estimates for the properties of a model for polymers in dilute theta solutions in its long-chain limit we follow a stochastic approach to polymer kinetic theory. The model takes into account configuration-dependent hydrodynamic interaction (HI) and simplifies to the Zimm bead-spring chain model in the case of preaveraged HI, for which parameter-free "universal ratios" such as the ratio between radius of gyration and hydrodynamic radius are known. The Chebyshev polynomial method and a variance reduction simulation technique are used to implement an efficient Brownian dynamics simulation. We resolve the full dependence of several characteristic ratios versus both chain length and hydrodynamic interaction parameter, we extrapolate their values to determine universal behaviors, and compare with analytical and experimental results. © 2000 American Institute of Physics.

    Notes: The relation between the governing equations for low Reynolds number flow of suspensions of rigid, axisymmetric particles and director theories of anisotropic fluids is examined in detail. The role of directors for modeling suspensions is illustrated and it is shown in what sense and how the equations for three common models of suspensions may be related to a director theory with a variable degree of alignment. The viscosity coefficients and molecular fields of the director theory are then expressed in terms of the parameters characterizing the suspension. Some implications of these results are discussed for tumbling/nontumbling of the director in shear flow, for Parodi's relations, and for thermodynamic restrictions of the viscosity coefficients. Additionally, several previous calculations of the Leslie viscosities are compared to the results obtained. © 1995 American Institute of Physics.

    Notes: Zusammenfassung Die Energieaufnahme beim Uebergang zur lamellaren Packung erfolgt anders als beim Uebergang zur Stäbchenpackung. Die Span nung durchläuft bei zunehmender Deformation ein Maximum und ein Minimum. Das Fassungs vermögen für potentielle Energie ist optimal geringer als bei der Längsdehnung und beträgt für einen Kubikzentimeter etwa 2 bis 3 mkg. Es wurden die Lamellareffekte besprochen, die die Zusätze hervorrufen. Sie sind allen Zu sätzen gleichen Zerteilungsgrades gemeinsam. Dann wurde noch über mikroskopische Oberflächenbilder bei lamellarer Packung berichtet und neue Apparaturen zur Messung beschrieben.

    Notes: Zusammenfassung Rohkautschuk wird beim Lagern doppelbrechend. Zu zweiachsig positiver Doppelbrechung führt die Längsdehnung. Die Entscheidung ist eindeutig, sobald man in der Debnungsrichtung beobachten kann. Bei den Vulkanisaten kann nur von ein- oder zweiachsiger positiver Doppelbrechung gesprochen werden. Die lamellare Deformation führt in allen Fällen zu schwacher zweiachsig negativer Doppelbrechung.

    Notes: Zusammenfassung Es wurden die elastisch — plastischen Eigenschaften saurer, neutraler und alkalischer Kieselsäuregallerten gemessen. Die Methode der Biegung von Stäben wurde verwendet. Bei gleichem Alter sind die elastischen Eigenschaften der verschiedenen Gallerten nicht sehr verschieden. Die plastischen Eigenschaften nehmen beim Uebergang von sauren zu alkalischen Gallerten fortlaufend zu, in ähnlicher Weise, wie sie schrumpfungsfähiger werden. Zum Schluß wurden aus diesen Tatsachen einige Folgerungen auf den inneren Aufbau der Gallerten gezogen.

    Notes: Zusammenfassung Es wurde eine Methode zur Messung der plastischen Eigenschaften von Gallerten beschrieben. Eine Reihe Gallerten wurde damit näher untersucht. Dann wurde die Temperaturabhängigkeit der Plastizität bei einer Gallerte untersucht und bei abnehmender Temperatur ein Zurückgang dieser Eigenschaft festgestellt, der den Aenderungen ähnlich ist, die sich beim zeitlichen Lagern einstellen. Dieses Ergebnis wird näher besprochen. Zum Schluß wurde eine Methode zur Herstellung gallertiger Linsen beschrieben.
