The details of a high power microwave transmission line developed for plasma applications are presented. The line operates at 2.45 GHz and can handle about (approximately-less-than)1 kW of cw microwave power with about 15%–20% insertion loss. A special feature of the line is its wide range impedance matching capability for operating under different load conditions. A coaxial triple stub tuner capable of handling high power cw microwaves was especially developed for this purpose. Detailed design considerations for the tuner and other critical components like the high power vacuum seal are presented.
