Examines the use of robots in Israeli industry. Two thriving sectors areresponsible for the majority of automation installation—carbide insertsand the electronics industry, with robots also being employed in a number ofkibbutzes industries including lens manufacturing and furniture production.Discusses the products of Eshed Robotec, the Israeli specialist in educationrobotics. A joint venture with Yaskawa of Japan has resulted in alow-cost industrial robot for lightweight application and Eshed isdiversifying into robots for high school. It has developed a low-costteaching robot for 11–15 year olds which includes a robot, controllerand a teaching package. The main market is expected to be the USA.
