Description / Table of Contents:
Summary A method is discussed by which both the ethylene oxide content and the nature and distribution of the alkyl chains of polyethylene oxide adducts can be determined in one step. Until recently the quantitative analysis of these products gave rise to many difficulties. The method includes a fission of the polyethylene oxide adducts with a 40% solution of hydrobromic acid in glacial acetic acid in sealed glass tubes, after which the fission products are determined gas-chromatographically. Results are given for saturated as well as unsaturated ethoxylated fatty alcohols, phosphated polyoxyethylene alkyl ethers, ethoxylated amines and ethoxylated esters.
Notes:
