Abstract The paramagnetic correction factors (β) for actinide ions are calculated, using relativistic expressions for the orbital contribution and a phenomenological expression for the core polarization contribution to the hyperfine field. Numerical results for β are given for ions ranging from Th2+ to Cf4+ in various ionization states. The approximations used in the calculations and the validity of the results are discussed. The results of previous PAC experiments on actinide nuclei are re-examined in the light of the present calculations.
