Description / Table of Contents: Crystal Structure of Li3BiO3Single crystals with the stoichiometric composition, CaSO4 · 3 H2SO4, were prepared from CaSO4 saturated hot H2SO4 by cooling below 310 K. The crystals are triclinic, space group P1, a = 533.6(3), b = 786.4(2), c = 823.1(2) pm, α = 88.66(3)°, β = 74.37(4)°, γ = 79.18(4)°, Z = 1. The structure consists of centrosymmetrically isolated CaO6 octahedra and two crystallographically different types of SO4 tetrahedra. Tetrahedra of the first type (SO3OH-) connect the CaO6 octahedra to infinite chains along the x-axis whereas the other type of tetrahedra (SO2(OH)2) linked these chains over hydrogen bonds along the y-axis. Thereby layer arrangements are formed parallel (001). In agreement with the structure analysis the compound is to formulate as H2SO4 adduct of calcium hydrogensulfate, Ca[(HSO4)2(H2SO4)2]. The structure is discussed in comparison to the analogous compounds of magnesium and cadmium.
