Description / Table of Contents: V2O5 · J2O5 · 4 H2O, crystallizing as slightly soluble yellow platelets, and hitherto regarded as heteropolyacid, is a real hydrate. Its formation medium (pH ≤ 1), properties and IR spectrum indicate a dioxovanadium(V) iodate 2-hydrate, VO2JO3 · 2 H2O, built up from monomeric VO2+ and JO3- units which are linked via partially covalent vanadium-iodate bonds to a co-ordination polymeric lattice. Its thermal dehydration is accompanied by a hydrolytic collapse of the lattice.
