    Description / Table of Contents: This volume presents the fourth part of the Cymbella synopsis, containing taxa in the genus Cymbolpleura of the temperate zone, with many remarks on taxa from the tropics and a large number of new taxa . Additionally it contains the genera Delicata ( the complex around Cymbella delicatula), Navicymbula (Cymbella pusilla), Gomphocymbellopsis (Cymbella ancyli) and Afrocymbella (the African species in the genus Gomphocymbellopsis sensu lato). Additionally the volume contains supplements with taxa from the genera Encyonema, Encyonopsis, Cymbellopsis and Cymbella.
